I am still not working and of course has been in furlough since 03/22 and going stir crazy. This is really insane. Since I work for a company who manufactures parts for the Auto industry, we are at the mercy of when the OEMs will re-start. It is looking like June 01st is when they will be cleared to re-start. Some of my ex co-workers have restarted their operations (auto parts makers as well).
Here's what is painful, it was just yesterday that Unemployment money finally came through (State of Georgia). It show you how antiquated our local state government's systems are (I fell like). I need money but not that desperate, so what about those people who are hand to mouth and the source of income has stopped and their unemployment checks have not showed up? The unemployment that comes from the State is almost nothing, however the stimulus of $600 per week is huge. The caveat is that you do not get it until your local State starts your UI insurance payout. Ironic.
Hope everybody's good, safe and healthy. Someday we can joke about this dark period in our history, while smiling (and thankful) that we survived it.
Hey mandy,
I'm in auto manufacturing. Not sure who you supply but we were told Big 3 were to be back this week and Canadian plants to start on 25th or sooner. Like you, I've had enough but it would be a shame to put all this effort in only to blow it and start over. WASH YOUR HANDS.
I also work for an auto parts manufacturer, mostly for Honda. (Funny that there are so many of us here.) We started the plant back up last week, as Honda scheduled production at their plants in Ohio to start this past Monday. We had to get parts into the pipeline before Honda started. It's been weird going back into the office. The H&S crew there has done a fantastic job setting up barriers, giving out PPE, staggering shift times, etc. My wife is still pretty nervous about it, as our gubmint in Ontario has not officially opened things up yet, so I am staying in the basement for the time being.
I am fortunate enough to have been able to work from home since the middle of March. I'm in IT, so 90% of what I do can be done remotely, and a good chunk of my job involves the global operations. There are lots of places around the world also shut down, but I have to support them working from home as well. Lots to do, for the most part over the past 7 or 8 weeks.

Agreed, wash your hands! Too, only go out for essentials, and when you do, wear a mask. We will get through this with cooperation and caring, by following the science; not by the misguided protestors and others urging to re-open the country in spite of not meeting the advised criteria for doing so.
Nice to hear about members who actually are in automotive. Crazy business, it takes a certain breed of folks to work in its environment. My eldest daughter is so strict in monitoring our in-out. We only go to her house and hang out with our 3 year old grandson (who has kept our sanity), if he's not actually in our home.
I'm right in the epicenter. Hopefully we can start reopening next month. Been working from home since the 10th of March. Would love to get an accurate antibody test when available.
Mandy: Unfortunately we don't have any Grandkids( 3 lazy sons!!) yet but i can only imagine your pain in not seeing them as you wish. Lady across the street from us just had her first GK and it kills her not to be able to just hug them . I can see the pain in her face when the kids have turned the corner to go home. Stay strong, stay committed . We'll get through this .
Well I am in the epicenter here in NJ and one lil piece of good news: I am allowed to get a haircut tomorrow ! So I am taking the SC out for a drive to the hair salon. I expect to be masked when getting my haircut but whatever, I will take it. Mandy - you guys had it better than us - I guess hair salons opened weeks back for you in GA.
I study the autos sector as an analyst. I am happy to see plants start up operations soon but I worry that non synchronized international start ups mean some of the starts will be met with stops due to further supply chain issues. Daimler had to stop their Alabama plant recently after a re-start - non supply of parts from Mexico caused the problems. We’ll eventually get back to full operations most places in the world but the path back may not be smooth. Obviously that means hardship for people and that is no fun. Not much we can do about it. Supply chains are international in this business. Some of the European countries have more complete safety net systems than we do for workers which allows them to manage econ hardship better.
OBP, yes I finally was able to get a haircut, the 1st day my salon opened (of course my stylist gave me a heads up). Only 5 inside. 2 being styled and 3 waiting (safe distance). Outside the Salon, it is free for all.The good thing is that people are following sage distancing. I see that seniors are a bit paranoid and I do not blame them. What I do not want is their "stare," as if you are about to steal from them...lol. All fun.
Talking about Automotive companies, I work for a Japanese company and they tend to be cautious, at this time there is no declared back to work date. I figure June 1st would be the earliest, then it will be a lot of catching up. Huge change point and new failure modes for sure, both in plant and logistics. New manufacturing era...
I guess I'm a little bit more fortunate in this situation where I don't have to stop working due to the lock down and actually getting bonuses since we have to work more. Who's in IT, raise your hands
Just take a deep breath, and concentrate on what you can do for the SC430 to kill times. Wash, wax, clay, clean inside out, so much things to do....
Also saved some $$$ due to unable to get haircut so I just shave my head. lol.
On the other hand, an ex-coworker/friend passed away due to Covid19. Sad.
Even though they are opening things up, be safe and keep all the protocols in place to protect yourself and love ones.

Also in IT, we don't have a lot of work since so many users aren't using the network. However we are able to get stuff done during the day that would normally require a maintenance window.
