Default Three Steps Forward...

Well, today was kinda sorta a good day. My salvage yard antenna works perfectly. The PCV hose is now replaced and my other vacuum hose has been changed with another salvage yard hose. (Better than $54.00 from the dealer I'd say.) And I got my rear engine undercover put back minus two of the plastic inserts.

The bad. My small undercover for the passenger side is still not installed. My girl was in an accident at 35,380 miles and is listed on the Lexus Drivers page. I'm not sure exactly what damage she took, but after a pretty good inspection, I would say they ran over something. The two bolts that are supposed to hold the small middle cover on, are sheered off, plus what looks like a dent in the gas tank. The front passenger tow hook is also bent. But I digress.

I fixed the small magnetic snap on the rear seat that had come apart and all was looking like I might get her back together tonight and be 100% tomorrow for a nice SoCal, top down ride. Threw the switch to open my top and the top gets to the verticle and stops. Then, the top starts to slowly continue down without the package tray opened, under its own weight. Hit the switch to close it and it closed and locked.

Pulled out my trusty iCarSoft i905 scanner and set it to monitor all top circuits. B2518. I just replaced a motor for a B2502 a couple of weeks ago. Checked the 20 Amp fuse in the "Luggage Room" and it's good.

So, I guess tomorrow I get to put all of that great information from my Electrical Wiring Diagram book and info VVTibob gave me and dive in once again.

It's a good thing I find this kind of stuff kinda fun or I might be mad! LOL. Have a great day and a great week everyone.
Paul

Sorry to hear about a new issue. Was the car too hot? The package tray motor has a thermistor which regulates it. If not, a search on the B2518 DTC returns two threads with all the necessary PDFs. A by-the-numbers/book overhaul is a big job, but sometimes if we ignore the engineers, who can be overly ****/rigid there are shortcuts. The labor is more for getting to the part then the part itself.

Thank you Sir. I will take a look. I have a little bit of investigation to do first. "If" it looks like a new motor is due, I will take the opportunity to change out the large package tray cover with the massive bubble in it at the same time. But I was all back up in there yesterday restoring the new salvage yard antenna so I'm hoping that it's something easy. I'm going to get pretty good at top issues here it seems. LOL.

Like I tell my son who is in processes of a major home remodel.....the fun of ownership, the pride of doing it yourself, the joy of knowing you most likely saved a great deal of money doing things that really are not that difficult, but most important - the knowledge gained.

There are two other more specific threads I was thinking of.

Well, the circuit is pretty simple. Two wires from the ECU to the motor. I just did an "inspection" of the fuse last night. Today I will actually take a meter to it and be certain that 12 Vdc is actually there. Once I pull the center cover in the trunk, I'll be able to do a continuity check from the connector through the motor. If I don't get a just few ohms through the connector then it will be pretty much verified. I found the whole motor and gear assembly on ebay for $66.47 + $22.00 S&H. I will probably just need the motor though so I should be able to do a little research on that P/N specific. But the parts are out there. Just have to find the time and money to make it all happen. Thanks for the info on B2518 threads. Saw one last night with 49 post I think that had photos etc. Started out as a cable issue but then morphed into the package tray motor failure. I learned how to use the search feature. I didn't want the moderator yelling at me across his keyboard! LOL.

Who’s YELLING.. I’m too busy making gentle, kind, good hearted, suggestions about using our SEARCH TOOLS. Beside we have a vast repository of archived responses....and some of those responses have value too!
