The cable just pull straight out. Seemed like your version 13 is corrupted or when you uninstalled the version 12, it left behind some files that is not compatible with ver 13. If you can not get the problem resolve from the vendor, install the version 12 and ignore the upgrade. Many of us here still using older version without any problem.

In that last picture you show a current key on the page for registering Techstream software and then the blank space.
On mine I do no show any current key on the line above the blank space. It just says current key and there is nothing there?
At some point I had a green light on the Mini VCI cable but as soon as I plugged into the usb on the laptop it is now red?
I reinstalled the oldest 12 which is 12.00.127 it all looked good no error messages, no missing dll's or missing files. I can click on the setup and configure I can click on the TIS box and change things. But as soon as I hook up to the SC and turn on the key it takes me to that register software page which has no current key listed and if I type in one of the 2 keys I have it takes me to the TIS web wanting all kinds of info.

Dennis, if you can get to the main page (the one with the car illustration ), your installation is done. You don’t have to do the registration. Just connect cable to the car, turn ignition to ON, hit “connect to vehicle,” what do you have? If you don’t get the message “unable connect to VIM”, you’re good to go.

NOTE: the Software Registration, on left in the Green Box, will take you to this page.
NOTE: don’t worry if the current key is blank.
Type in the current key, click OK.
NOTE: You should see an expiration or days left, see Green box lower left side.
NOTE: Do NOT click Software Registration, Red Box, it will take you to their web page.

It's like the key.exe file is not taking when I drag it over the techstream icon on the desktop and drop on the file. I am assuming that is what it is asking for when in the instructions it says to move the key.exe file into the techstream folder?

1.MVCI firmware update tool. When I open it a screen with Xhorse firmware update tool 2.0.1 for mini VCI across the top and then a page with a bunch of blanks: Device SN, Model, Firmware, Dealer, Status All blank. I just hit the Device icon button and they all filled in. It is showing the cable connected. Do I need to do anything else with the other icons on that page? The firmware version is showing 1.4.1. The seller show it to be version 2.0.4?

I see your problem.
1. If you have a keys.exe file, you need to run this file (execute it) before run Techstream file. It will put the key to the registry, so when you run the Techstream, it knows you have a key.
2. If you have a key.txt file, you need to open the file, copy the key, run Techstream and paste the key to the window.
