But does it need to be cut by a locksmith or can you receive as is and then go through the programing steps?

Good question...I tried to program an uncut key and could not do it. I held the key tip on the metal ignition switch.

did you mean an uncut key or did I misunderstand your question?

Go cut the new key blank, then program it. BTW, anyone who cuts keys can program the new key to your car.

Dennis,
Of course, the key need to be cut before you do a programming. From your photo, I can see the key was cut. Now you just have to follow the instruction. Ít took me less than five minutes.
Before you begin the programming, make sure your key fob has fresh battery or even has “guts” inside (I hope it does).
Words of caution, some of the vendors on EBay and/or Amazon known to sell the key fobs that are bad or can not be programmed..
Good luck.

That is what I was looking for. So based on the key I showed in the remoteremote.com link that I posted a couple of posts up if I order that one for $24.95 and have it shipped to my son in VA he should then be able to take it directly out of the package and go through the steps as outlined in Bgw70 posting and program the key to work (hopefully) in his 2005 SC 430 both the key (ignition side) as well as the fob side using the 2 different steps?

Dennis,
I'm sorry to mistaken you with the OP. No, you first have to have the key cut, and goes thru the programming. Depend on the dealer, cutting the key could cost from 40-80 dollars.
Why don't you buy the key from Daryl's link, it's cost the same and they pre-cut it for you. (just click on the link) . You just need to provide the photo of the master key. They will have the programming instruction included.
I did not know that someone would sell the key and pre-cut it for that price.

So I ordered this key today for my sons 2005 SC 430 and had it shipped to him in VA. Upon receipt he will need to get it cut to match the one key that he has and then we will start the programing process.

Thanks for all the info and assistance in getting the process started.

So I ordered that key and had it sent it to my son in VA. He took it to his local dealership yesterday and they said is was neither cut able nor programable. I have asked for a refund from remotesremotes. I will post back when it is resolved.

Dennis, the key looked right to me. I can understand it might not be programmable but not cut-able?
Oh, I got it. Some Lexus dealer will not cut or program online purchased key. You must buy the key from them, cost 200 + dollars, for cut and programming. Tell your son takes the key to a local Locksmith, they will do it for less than an hour and under 100 bucks.

OBE the son purchased a 2nd key from the dealership. He felt he did not have the time to mess with it any more. I am trying to get a refund from remotesremotes. I have offered to send the key back but they seem to want to replace it and I am like no you sent the wrong key per the Lexus Dealership. He no longer needs a 2nd key he has one. The Dealership had no problem cutting the Key for a flat rate charge of $25 but they said it was the wrong key.

Well remotesremotes offered me a full refund if I will return it. The son is in the process of returning it today. He now has a second key it just cost a little more than I had hoped for.
