Just a follow up. I had the new tires with the new TPMS sensors installed today at Firestone. I have an 06 so I have the color coded sensors. I bought the Toyota sensors not the Denso. Probably the same thing. Both were essentially the same price. The manager at Firestone felt very confident that they would be able to mate the new sensors to the ECU. I had my doubts. Well, I was right. He said they tried everything they knew and were not successful. I do have Techstream on an old computer so I felt confident I could do it. I had my wife stay at the computer and I entered the program mode and started letting air out. She would tell me when each sensor programing was successful and I just went around the car letting air out until all four were entered. TPMS light went out and all is well. The local Toyota store wanted about $200.00 for the service. If I only use this cable once in my life I am way ahead.

you could purchase eight cables and copies of TechStream for that kind of money!!!

i know I’ve saved a bunch of money using TechStream to program my TPMS sensors, change car settings and run diagnostics over the last few years!

my total investment was $65...$25 for TechStream with the cable and $40 for an old Gateway mini laptop with WinXP.

Hi.
Where can I get cable and TechStream that will work to program new TPMS sensors? I've seen them on Amazon and ebay but not the best reviews.
I'm in Tampa Bay, FL. Anyone local here to help?
Thx

Remember, you are buying the bootleg copy of very expensive software that Toyota and Lexus dealers are using. Most, if not all, products you see on Amazon, EBay...are from China. You just have to bite the bullet and hope for the best. Most of us here have no problem. I wish I could give you my vendor but unfortunately he’s out of business.

Well, I live due East of you on the opposite coast...two hour drive.
Make a trip over here and I will program them for you.

BTW, did you ever get your AC working correctly?

Hi.
Thank you for the offer. Will try to do it myself first and we'll go from there.
Yes, AC was fixed by replacing compressor and condenser.
Regards

Very informative thread. Thanks so much. It would appear that any color TMPS sensor can be replaces with any other color TMPS sensor using the programming procedure through TechStream. What am I missing?

Thanks

David

as long as you don’t use the same color twice...you must have all four colors.
red
blue
yellow/gold
white

I just found this set of TPMS sensors for our 2002-2006 SC430s...$320 seems to be a decent price

Is there a way to tell which monitor is bad? Ie. left rear, right front

I replaced all sensors at the same time but never made notes on which colour was where.

Great question...yes, if you have Techstream you can indicate which color sensor in each wheel, either reprogram or reduce the air in each tire, then look at Techstream for the reduced air pressure.
if you have a sensor at 1.8v, it may not respond to an air pressure change

Refer to this link, posts #29 and #30 for more details.

Hi. Not sure if anyone monitors this thread any more but I am smack dab in the middle of some TPMS pain. I bought OEM Sensors from Ebay for my 2006 SC but my mechanic won't install because he claims his reader doesn't pull a frequency. I explained to him he just need to install and I would take over using a copy of Techstream and a VCI cable but he doesn't want to. Is that a thing? "pulling a frequency"? Is there a way to tell if these new sensors are actually good? Also I haven't even gotten to the Techstream part of my project yet and am starting to lose patience. If anyone knows anyone in the Chicagoland area that has Techsteam. and can program these I'd be grateful. even the Toyota dealer wants 150 bucks a wheel which seems insane.

The way i see it ; your only problem is with the install. Once you have them installed you can take over-- don't give up on the techstream so fast. You'll be glad you persisted. There are ways of installing yourself(check YouTube). The only thing i would be concerned with if you did it yourself would be balancing but i figure your just replacing like for like so there shouldn't be any weight difference.I can't understand why he wouldn't install but maybe he sees it as a liability issue. If you feel he's competent, give him a pass on any damage he may do.

Bgw: either reprogram or reduce the air in each tire, then look at Techstream for the reduced air pressure.

yes, I thought that would be a way but i was looking for the easiest, laziest method !!

Discount Tires will install them, I believe that Costco will also.
