Question What about Canada???

I am planning a trip to Quebec and it looks like my nav system is only good in the US. Is there a broader version? There must be drivers who travel back and forth.

Is there NAV in the Canadian SC430s yet? I know there wasn't at first....

I heard discussion about Canada getting a different DVD/CD for their navi...

Does anyone know for sure?

Yes we do have the NAV, and DVD covers both Canada and the U.S.

we have map 2001ver.?? in our SC430, LS430, and map2002ver.1 in the GX470 now.

all the DVDs do have a Canada area location.

actually if you log into http://owners.lexus.com, and go to community: customer service, it will has a list of FAQ, and in #9 answer it states at the end that "Lexus plans to continue to provide new database information updates twice a year (spring and fall). Please contact your local Lexus dealer for further details."

I was going to buy the 2002ver.1 DVD for the SC430, LS430, but my sales person said I should wait to fall to get a newer version of the map.

Default Update software

Does anyone know if the updates include any "software" type upgrades or just "more roads"? The differences in functionality between the NAV in my SC (2001 ver) and the GX (2002 ver) are very dramatic and I was wondering if some of those functions might be able to be provided in software.

For example - the GX version allows a "route preview" which is great - the SC does not. There are many other examples.

I have the 2002 version 1 and I am finding a lot of road mistakes . When they sell you the updates do they tell you what areas they update before you buy it?

Hmm...what version do you have...mine is 2001. Just to be clear: when I select a destination on the SC it shows me my choices at a high level of specificity. On the GX you can select an option where it actually takes you on on the route at a high level of detail (its like you actually made the drive only much quicker). Its a totally different thing. Which do you have on your SC?

Default route overview

I have a 2003 SC and I have 2002 version 1. It actually has a separate menu and you choose route overview and you can control it going forward backward its pretty cool

Default Thats the ticket

Yep thats the one I have in the GX...and I love it. So what I am wondering if that is due to the year of the car (mine is a 2002 SC) or the year/version of the DVD....

I don't think its the year of the car as much as its the date of when you purchase the car. For example I would think an earlier 2003 SC that came out in maybe august might have an older version of the DVD then someone who bought an SC now.

Default Used DVDs??

I checked with the dealer today and the current version is $500 (which seems a little steep to me), but moreover, it dawned on me that someone with an older version (mine is 2000 Ver1) might see an improvement by even going to 2001.

Does this mean that there could be a market for slightly used DVDs?? What does the dealer do with old DVDs when they do an update?

Anyone else find better prices??

Default make a back up

The dvd appears to be accessible in the trunk.
With a dvd burner and dvd copy software, you should be able to make a "back up" and store it safely in you friend's sc430
