Default Camera Backup Lines

Question about back up cameras.

I bought a secondary camera to run full time in addition to my back up camera on my gps with NAVIKS. The second camera is useful because I can see what is behind me at all times.

But the camera and screen I purchased have back-up lines, which is not optimal to run full time. My question- are the lines I see on the aftermarket screen coming from the screen or camera? Do you know if they can be turned off on some devices?

If the green, yellow, and red back up lines are coming from camera on my license plate, I can just switch pins number 18 and 14 on the navigation 18 pin connector (ie. you know what I mean if you have gone through this install with NAVIKS or NAVTOOL).

BUT if the lines are on the in cabin display unit, I guess I would need to change out the camera?

It's not a big deal, but after all this work with the install I want it perfect :-)

On the license plate camera I used, the lines came from the camera and could be turned off. Calibration of the lines to distance came from adjusting the camera's downward angle.

+1 -- I turned them off. Check your instructions and I bet you can turn them off.

I think I already threw away the instructions. So I should move the camera angle up or down and it will disable the grid lines??

Hi! Brett - no, moving the camera up and down will only calibrate the numbers shown on the lines. Depending on your camera you would typically disconnect two wires coming out of the camera. You can probably check with your dealer to replace the instructions.

Default Two cams, naviks, mirroring, sensors in back and front

I didn't like the camera so I just bought a new one. They are not expensive. When I get my set up finished I will post pics:

I have two cams in back, one for backing up through naviks, a separate cam to run full time, back up sensors, sensors in the front, and wireless mirroring. It's a little crazy to have so many devices, but once I took apart my trunk and figured out the install I wanted to do it all at once. Plus the sensors and cams are not expensive and nice quality. There are no wires in the cabin exposed so it's a clean install. My license plates have lots of sensors so a little cluttered..

Hey Lex, I am looking forward to your pictures. I would like to see how you entered the car from the license plate camera area.

Ok great I will make sure to do a good write up. In the rear, there is a grommet near the bottom of the trunk that feeds the power lines to the license are lights. I used that to run the wires. In the front, I have not done the install..

Not finished yet, and a complete DIY is forthcoming, but here is what I have so far:
