So I installed the new pioneer AVHX 5700 and combined both antennas thru a y fitting. Will I get worse reception now? or should I just use the rear antenna or just windshield?. I love HD radio and need as good a signal as I can get. Please , need opinions

For anyone who has removed the antenna fuse, do you lose the MSG capability or any other functions of the OEM radio?

It is kind of a crap shoot. You'll lose about 2 dB worth of signal by adding the extra connectors in there but there is the possibility that the merging of the signals will regain some of that loss. OTOH, since the signals won't be the exact same signal, there are also the likelihoods of interference between the two signals causing slight decreases in signal strength. But it can't hurt to try. I'd give it a try and see how it turns out.

Please share the model number and possibly any pictures of the Y cord. I would really like to keep the stock connecots intact.

Long story but the sizes of the connectors on each antenna are different .
One (rear is standard size but the windshield is smaller) and I looked everywhere for an adapter to get it to standard size but couldn't find one so I put the smaller connector in the standard size of the y connector and crimped the Y connector around the smaller Lexus connector making sure both the pin and the sleeve were connected. Kind of primitive I know. At the same time I changed out the rear antenna to a 6 inch stubby. It works but with the HD channels it seems to work intermittently and I'm thinking I should disconnect the crimped Lexus connector on the y and reinstall the Lexus original antenna. However if I do that I'll need to install a switch somewhere because with the Pioneer power is always on even though you turn the radio off. So with that the antenna always has power and is extended. Pioneer people say the switch is the only way to fix that. In other words interrupt the power from the radio to the power antenna.
What a pain. But before I do that I think I'll disconnect the windshield antenna and just try the stubby and see how the HD works. Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated.

Okay, I should have provided more information...
I installed the Following,
Avh-X5700
beatsonic adapter
and
Pioneer overide

My Pioneer raises and lowers my antenna but I wanted to use both antennas.

The only antenna I connected was the rear due to the different size connectors.

are you setup this way?

mandyfig, thanks for the pointer, has anyone actually tried this out?

I think there's a good chance this fuse may disable the entire "radio" function, not just power antenna?

UPDATE: According to this thread (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...ml#post6000726), that fuse won't keep the antenna down. But i haven't independently tested it.

Also, is there any additional information where this specific fuse box is located in the cabin? I'm technically challenged, but definitely want to keep the antenna down

Any additional assistance or advice is much appreciated.

Radio No 1 is the Radio, I just assumed the Radio # 2 is the power antenna. Type in SC430 antenna fuse on google you will get hits and this is where I picked this up.

Just try.

Did you install the beatsonic adapter?
If so the antenna will go up and down when the radio is turned on and off.

Radio fuse no.2 is located in the passenger floor kick panel.

Now if you just want the antenna to stay down, disconnect the connector that is attached to the antenna. You posted a link and in that link is a picture of the connector you need to disconnect, if the fuse does not take care of it for you.

Passenger kick panel, that's where I had to replace the cigarette lighter oultet as well. Remove the fuse, if your antenna does not move, you are good. If not you will have to do it the hard way, take the covers off.

THanks for the pointers, I'll have to give this a shot and see what results I get.

I would love to not have to near up the trunk.

I will post back in a few weeks when I get around to it.

Just in case anyone gets there first, please let us know. Thanks!

With the pioneer AVH 5700 the power to the radio is always on even when you have the radio off. Pioneer says its got something to do with bluetooth

Thanks Azz, I better go check this on my 5700. Could it have anything to do with the way power was wired during installation?

Here is the other thread when we discussed these radios with Helo!

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...enna-woes.html

Will let you know what I find...
