Bringing this post back to life for iamthedoor and I have a question...
I'm considering putting the old antenna back on but keeping it unplugged so it doesn't extend. After some use, I realized the stubby antenna I installed gets about 50% reception because it's only installed for the looks. I took out the oem extending antenna and there was a hole where it used to be (I kept the antenna housing and everything there), the hole is about the diameter of a penny. So, my stubby antenna didn't have anything to screw into. It's pretty much just sitting where the hole used to be. I'm guessing the screw needs to be in contact with something in the antenna housing? I'm not sure how to get that contact or what to contact. I can solder a wire to the screw then attach the wire to something in the antenna housing? Any thoughts? It's hard to explain without pictures so I may take it apart on Sunday and submit some pics to show the problem.

Is this the only part of our antenna that is used to get radio reception?

thanks for the quick response, this antenna is driving me crazy haha let me tell you what im thinking of doing and let me know your thoughts.
I want to use something like this antenna instead. i would plug the antenna jack into the existing jack (where the arrow is plugged into). then plug the other two wires (ground and power) into the power source that is only on when the radio is on?

To do the stubby antenna right there should be an adapter you can get. I did my Honda S2000 antenna upgrade on my Camry (which had the same kind of antenna as the SC) a while back and I used an adapter and it worked like a charm. I actually have pics from that DIY...

Right now I have the stubby securely fastened onto the hole where the extending antenna used to be (its not wired to to anything). Now I was thinking of attaching this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hidde...#ht_2997wt_939 to the antenna plug inside the trunk liner so I can still get good reception.

iamtheodor, it works. The stubby antenna is solely used for looks, then I plugged this into the antenna reception cable: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hidde...#ht_2997wt_939. I ran the cable all the way into the rear passenger seat headrest, so it could get better reception than just sitting in the trunk.
