they also make the flat ones that look like the nav computer antennnas but i mean its only worth all this trouble if you shaved the original off and still wanted to listen to the radio

Do you have a link to one of the flat ones that would look good in the current antenna location? I'm guessing it would have to be made out of rubber so it forms to the curves of the car. I had a very hard time finding different antennas. Mostly all of them on eBay are fake and for decoration only. Let me know what you find, I'm definitely interest. I still haven't found a really good solution worth recommending.

Deadeyed has a nice looking antenna. I'm trying to find out where to buy one of these, but it has to be real, I've seen a lot of fake/decoration ones. Needless to say, I've hit a dead end:

I found this 'flat' antenna that I think you were refering to, but this one is decoration:

The S2000 antenna comes to mind. It will be perfect for our SC. I will post some pics of my S2000 that I installed on my old Camry.

Here's an option. The S2000 antenna. If you can find the right base adapter (it will not be hard) I bet the antenna will look awesome on our SC. No more of the up-down cycling thing, it is annoying.

What I did was to use the same base and bought an adapter (which was a Toyota part). I can probably still get into the old thread @ toyotanation and get the part #.

The base was re-used (as in our case, too) but you need all the remaining hardware, the bolt and the lock and the bracket that will allow you to mount the antenna. It comes in 1 piece. Let me do the research. I will like this mod.

When my son's Camry was t-boned and totaled in 09, I kept the S2000 set up. Time to get it from storage and see the possibilities.

That looks like it would work! As long as the Celica sub antenna and nut fit in our cars opening. From there you could screw in the s2000 antenna or probably any other stubby antenna. It'd be nice to get some definitive answers on the antenna issue. It looks like it would cost around $75 + shipping for the 3 pieces (celica sub, celica nut, and s2000 antenna).

Are you going to try this one out with the parts you already have?

That's the plan for the weekend. 1st stop to make sure we have enough real estate, the SC's is side mounted. But from what I can remember the auto antenna from the Camry is about the same size.

I just hate the constant up and down of our antenna.

And our SC's are not sexy with the antenna up. A Short stubby would be nice.

Good morning.

So if the rear antenna is only for AM reception how would you go about converting the FM antenna into a Shark or roof top on my SC300
