SC430 Navigation Upgrade
Yup. Comes right out.
You need to remove the tonneau cover (two nuts under plastic caps on each side).
WARNING - take the caps and nuts off and remove the tonneau cover BEFORE you take the floor panel off (it's off in your pic). Why? Because if/when you drop the darn nut, it will fall down into THE most inaccessible place on Earth! How do I know?...trust me, I know!
After that, it's just a matter of removing the bolts from the bracket(s). There's a bolt (or two, depending on the bracket) on the top side of the bracket (visible in your pics). And there's another that's underneath, on the front end of the bracket (the bracket is "L" shaped, facing down) that's attached to the front of the trunk (back side of the back seat).

Thanks for the info Habious. This time around when I tear apart the trunk again I will take more detailed pics for everyone. Will be installing the gen4 nav and tails at the same time.

I just replaced my 2002 GPS CD with(PT219-GEN23-10 from Sewell) and everything works except the Point of Interest for California. It locks up and turns dim grey for a minute and then returns to a normal select mode. I have selected California for my search area. All the other states work if I select them. Is the CD corrupted? The original 2002 CD worked just fine for POI.
Re the date of the NAV info. You can tell several ways. Look at the DVD itself. The drive is in the trunk. With the engine running, eject the disc and see what version it is. If you have an '03, that car came (probably) with version 2 or 3. That data would be close to 10 years old. The discs came out just about one a year, so the current version is probably 10 or 11. I've been using 8 for a few years and it's pretty good for me. Check the Seawell cite for the current version and for a good price for members here.
You can also get the version number from the menus, but I forget how. Surely it's in the intuitive giant NAV book that will surely come with the car.
Happy motoring.

so Since I have an 06 it would be a gen 4, and if the disk had been updated to ver 8.0 or 8.1. (can't remember which) then I can Not access an override if I understand this correctly.
I hate having to pull over on an empty highway just to change something! anything I can do to override it?

this is for an '06 (not sure what disc version):
0. Touch "I agree" graphic on touchscreen after vehicle is started
1. Press Menu button on Dash
2. Touch Volume graphic on the touchscreen
3. Touch the speaker graphic on upper left of touchscreen
4. Touch lower left corner of touchscreen
5. Touch speaker graphic again
6. Touch lower left corner of touchscreen again
7. Maintenance menu will appear
8. Touch and hold Override until you hear a beep.
But for the gen 2/3 disc version 9.1 use:
Press MENU button (button below your screen)
Press SYSTEM OPTIONS button
upper left corner *
lower left *
upper left *
lower left *
lower right *
now touch override.
Here's a link for the gen 2/3 (I didn't save the link for the other):

The note by Tex is not accurate.
I have two cars that take the same data disc, and I switch my Ver 5 and Ver 8 disc between them all the time.
My understanding is that either the Ver 2 or the Ver 3 data disc also contained an update to the operating system. Once you insert this disc, or any subsequent disc, which also contains the update, you cannot revert to a version based on the earlier operating system. As far as I know, there is only one OS update.
I do not have a version from the last several years, so I may be a little out of date in this, but I have been freely going back and forth with versions 3, 5 and 8 for quite a few years with no problems whatsoever.
If something new was added recently, I have not heard of it. My guess is that all versions are interchangeable, with the exception of the very early '01 and '02 discs that used the first version of the OS.

Lexus SC430, year 2003... question...
When you upgrade the Navigation CD, does the "look" of the map change? The current one looks like a 1980's video game?
What, if anything, can be done to make it look more modern?
Thanks!!

The "look" of the map is limited by the resolution of the display screen which software is inexplicably unable to change despite the best efforts of some very smart people who inexplicably live in California.
The OP asks three questions, but one appears to be a statement, even though inexplicably followed by a question mark. The answer to the first question is "no." The answer to the other question about making the map look "more modern" (I don't think the "more" is needed) is "nothing."
You could, of course, change out the whole system for something newer (or more modern) but that's another matter altogether. The curious can find many, many posts on that subject by invoking the "search" function of this forum.
PS: I have been looking at the SC screen since 2001, and I do not and have never thought it looked like an old or a new video game. I think it looks like a map, and it has proven to be very helpful to me on many instances in many of these united states. I have no problem with it.
PPS: Have you seen the iPhone 5 maps? Mario should have such a nice map.

As a soon to be owner of an 03 SC430 how do I know how up to date my navigation disc is? Thanks for the help
