The previous disc in my nav was 4.7GB (single layer). I made the assumption that this would be the case with the 9.1 also since it didn't have as many POIs or map details as my ver 7.x disc in my ES.
I will try to attach a photo of the maintenance screen with OVERRIDE highlighted, showing it's been selected. Car was running in park, radio off, lights off, AC was running. However, I've accessed this screen with the key in ACC position, engine off. What is NOT consistent is that the touch points don't seem to work the same every time. It takes several attempts to get into the maintenance screen. I've also attached a photo of the approx. touch points and the version screen that shows my system information.

To the best of my knowledge, the Lexus Nav system does not have a "speaks street names" feature. My Garmin has this feature and it is very helpful, (and also somewhat amusing when it mispronounces a street name)
Any thoughts on why a "speaks street names" has not been incorporated?

By today's standards the nav systems (gen 2) in the early SCs are somewhat minimalistic. The DVD is single layer, which greatly limits the amount of retrievable information. Similarly the processor and software in the early units are somewhat primitive compared to even a low-end Garmin today. Later SCs have much better systems. That said, Lexus as a company hadn't really embraced all of the available technology for its systems as late as mid-2000s. As an example, the Denso nav system in my 2006 ES330 (gen4) or my son's 2006 IS350 (gen 5) don't have nearly the level of sophistication and integration with other onboard systems as my 2003 Honda Accord did (Alpine). Every manufacturer or systems integrator makes design choices and the Lexus/Denso partnership must have determined that verbalizing street names was simply less desirable than something else. It wasn't because they couldn't do it. BTW I too have a Garmin nav unit and I find some of the name pronunciations entertaining as well.

VVTiBob, are you sure you got the $172 price correct? I just checked yesterday on Sewell's website on the 2010 map update disc and the price quoted online was $197 with the CL discount which works out to be just $2 off from the regular price of $199. Please advise how you got $172. Thanks.

A friend and I have 02 SC430s. Mine was built in Dec 01, his in March 02. We tried to update the nav disk to the updated 2010 disk. His nav askes for French or English, mine does not. There are a few other minor differences. The 2010 nav disk updated both of our systems. We burned a copy, and the burnt copy worked in his car, and not mine. Any pointers for getting the burnt copy to work in my nav?

override???
Found it. Yes, I have version 09.1.
It doesn't show "System Options" on mine but does have a DVD option, as mentioned above. Press "DVD" and then go through the procedure. So for me the procedure is:
Press menu button
Press "DVD"
When the DVD screen appears:
touch the top left corner of the screen,
bottom left corner
top left corner
bottom left corner
bottom right corner
Then the service screen appears with multiple options, including "Override". Press "Override" and then "Back".

Is override so that you can enter information while driving?
has something changed with the new DVD?
please help. thanks.

i just got the new gen2/gen3 10.1 DVD. went into DVD and did the procedure described above. All of the buttons worked except the Override button. What could i be doing wrong? Weird thing is if, from this screen, i hit INFO dash button, and select Maintenance, it comes back to this screen and i am able to select Override and the Override button turns green, but then it hangs.

Is it possible for Lexus to let you review the newest update so that you can check for road or highway updates and also see what it will look like in your car? I'd hate to pay for an update only to find it is minimal and not worth the cost. Any feedback is appreciated.

You could always go to the showroom floor and check out one of the new models with NAV.
