As far as I know, the GPS doesn't provide speed data.

However, this data can be gleaned from the OBD-II port, if you have a way of accessing that.

Follow this link and you'll see a list of the most current Map by Generation and car model:

https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...igationmaps.do

Follow this link to read about version 9.1. Unfortunately they never posted the map preview, but did include other items. http://www.lexusnavigation.com/index.php

And BTW, under the FAQ the following questions were posted and answered that may help you decide on how to proceed.

Q3. When will the next navigation update be available for purchase from my Lexus dealer?
A: Version10.1 will be available in Fall 2010.

Q9. What is the general cut-off time frame for each calendar year’s update?
A: Input for the following release in the fall is generally closed in September of the prior calendar year. For example, the information to be included on the Ver. 9.1 updates was closed in September 2008. This is necessary to allow sufficient time to verify the accuracy of data to be provided on the update.

Yeah...the "newest" disk is basically a year old on release day.

It's REALLY annoying here in the Washington DC area, where the roads and exits change on a regular basis (I mean like significant stuff...a left-side exit changed to a right-side exit...kind of a good piece of info to have!)

I've got an '03...with the '06 data disk in it. I've been putting the update off but, I think this fall I'm going to have to pull the trigger. The '06 data is just too outdated now. Roads have changed, exits have moved, gas stations have closed (Exxon's closed a lot of their gas stations in recent years).

Updates come out annually - usually around late September, early October.

The Toyota navigation DVD and the Lexus navigation DVD are the same disc (but different part numbers with their respective Dealership).

The Sewell parts website lists the 2010 as having shipped on 9/13:

~ Ship date September 13, 2010 ~

This map update includes:

* Over 6 million miles of road and roughly 8 million Points of Interest, such as ATMs, restaurants, hotels, gas stations, and more.
* Numerous expanded cities and metropolitan areas.

Benefits of keeping your map current:

* Businesses and roads open and close every day. A new map will help direct you to the most up-to-date points of interest.
* A new map maximizes the value of your navigation system bydetermining the most efficient route -- which will save you time, money, and gas.
* Increased confidence when you navigate and explore new places.

It is a thoughtful gift to give to yourself, or a loved one.

I believe there's a reference to the use of the media in the software license (in the nav manual) that discourages illegal copying. When you think about it, if Toyota had sharing in mind they would only make one disc...

"Sharing" someones product (ie: CDs, DVDs, etc) is and has always been a no no. I think intellectual property attorneys might have a little problem with that..

Personally, I just bought a car for around $40K and if I can't afford $200 for a NAV disc then there is something potentially faulty in the (my?) equation.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Clearly I couldn't speak for everyone here but since cheap bastards exist at every dollar level you might expect to find some others here on this forum. From what I've been able to infer from their posts, however, I think the vast majority of members would probably draw the line at breaking the law to get something cheap. Just my $0.01 (would be $0.02 but I'm a cheap bastard too).

No worries. I agree that the nav discs are in a completely different price class than your average video DVD. I'm sure it makes most of us think twice about spending the money on one.
