SC430 Navigation Upgrade
#61
I have to check again, I seem to remember there's only a slide button to close/open the slot, but did not see an eject button. Maybe I was half asleep wheh I did this.

10.1 navigation hybrid
I wasn't aware that the generation 2/3 systems allowed override no matter what version of the disc you used.
In my case I have a generation 4 system and the 5.1 disc that came with the car does allow override.
If I update my system to a 6.1 disc or newer I will loose the override unless I create a hybrid disc that uses the 5.1 operating system and tha data from the newer disc.
My questions is has anyone successfully created a 5.1/10.1 hybrid disc.
I have been trying but so far no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.

Exactly What does the Override Do?
Just received my 10.1 disc today Gen 4 for for my 05 SC430, and wanted to ask what the "override" exactly does? Is it something I should do as well, since I'm new to the Lexus Nav system and am just getting the setting's down
Much Appreciated.

Regarding the override, this is a handy software feature that enabled users to have full use of the system while the vehicle is in motion by accessing a maintenance mode setting on the NAV system. For Gen 4 the override part of the maintenance screens was removed by about ver. 7.1 so I don't think you will be able to use the override with the OEM 10.1 disc (but you will like the more current POI and road data).

Did they change the user interface or update functionality with the upgrade disk? From what I read, it seems like they only updated the roads and added POIs. I may be the only one that thinks this, but IMHO the nav in these cars is absolutely horrible. I have to use my Garmin. I even considered taking out the whole oem nav so I can get an entirely different nav in there or something that's useful. Just wanted to share my opinion and vent lol

A DVD upgrade only improves the list of streets and POIs. The data is at least one year old and not every county is upgraded. You have to read the notice. It takes that previous year to compile, manufacture and distribute the disks.
I was in a 2011 ES250 yesterday while motor mounts were being replaced on my SC. It's true the NAV systems, even in the newest Lexus vehicles are at least a generation behind a good Garmin, Magellan unit. But the Gen 6 system is much better than the Gen 2/3 system that came in my 02. That is the reason I upgraded mine to a Gen 4 system. Unfortunately, going to a Gen 6 is not financially reasonable, nor feasible due to wiring and ECU changes.
