I'd be curious to know what color SCs got speeding tickets. Something, call it experience , tells me that red will predominate.

You are probably right, but right now the car is so unique I bet it catches the attention of the officer's eye no matter what the color. Mine is silver.

I got stopped the first week I had mine. I'm not an aggressive driver, but I felt the need to pass a BMW 7xx that was bothering me on I-5 in Seattle (which I did, easily). The officer was young -- mid 20's -- and though he was very professional, he was clearly impressed with the car. After telling me sternly and politely to slow down, he proceeded to ask several questions about the car, performance, handling, etc. Didn't even write me up with a warning.

Default rader/laser detector

Has anyone installed the Passport SRX radar detector / laser shifter in their SC430? It's very pricey, but has received some unusually glowing reviews. Makes me wonder how objective the reviewers really are.

I'm not a speed demon, but I commute several hundred miles a week. Increasing my average speed just a few MPH (while keeping it safe) would save some real time.

The new Car and Driver has a reviwe of radar detectors...once again. valentine one is of course the best. The probleml with RD is that you're not as cautious and rely too much on the machine instead of paying attention to the side of the road lookin for crown vics. A few years back when I got my Supra that thing got pulled over about 2 hours after I left the delaership....and later that week....hahaha

Default tickets

just out of interest i tested a silver 430 along the autoroute between Geneva and Lausanne in Switzerland last saturday morning and got a ticket in a town called Rolle (they missed the 'd' - darned cops).

this was my first time in the car ever. they gave me a $40 fine for not displaying the plate on the front in a visible position - it was on my wife's lap at the time !

needless to say the garage paid the fine and i bought the car. which some arab sheikh cancelled after lexus japan gave him one for free. sounds like crocodile dundee!

taking delivery next saturday and i cant wait !

mine is a black/mica metallic with light interior...

Default K40 saved me

I got a pile of tickets in my SC400 (black) but I actually find that with the top down in my SC430 I drive slower - not sure why - maybe its just too quiet with the top up and you lose perspective.
since I live in NYC I haven't been driving it too much since 9/11 and then Winter.

Anyway - with my front/rear radar/laser K40 installed by dealer I am sure I have avoided a couple of close calls. Cost was steep but I have had a K30 or 40 in all my cars since I amlost lost my license in the SC400. Haven't been nailed since. (Oh-oh; I probably just blew it)

I've had genearch's luck myself.
I've only had 1 speeding ticket in my life, for 40 in a 30, and that was in an '86 Celica in '90.

Not that I drive like an old fart.
The SC430 seems the most comfortable at 75-80 to me.

In the '93 SC400 (jade), I "accidentally" ran up on a cop at 90, realized what I was staring at, and backed off with no notice from them. I also was going home at 3am at 70, and the cop pulled behind me, then along side (when I didn't slow down -- I was busted anyway), flashed the side lights (to see if I was drunk, or as a warning, I guess) and drove on as I slowed to 60.

And I drive in some of the tougher areas of metro Dallas, where the cops can be very picky.

It's nothing but luck, I think.
