Well, if, as you say, "this has be discuss already," then my guess is that the Search Guy remembers.

And, usually, his English has be much more better.

Where is the hack for the 05+? Does it involve cutting wires?

No, but it involves mucking around every single time you get in the car. Not worth it.

So this is not a permanent command? It has to be done each and every time your enter the car?

Not technically. The NAV system, as smart as it is, does not know if you have exited or entered the car. The command sequence has to be done each and every time you start the engine.

For two reasons, I stopped using this several months after learning about it several years ago (and it works on both of my Lexus cars). First, the codes have to be re-entered every time you start the car, and this cannot be done while the car is in motion. Since you only think to use it while in motion, and often on expressways, this limits its implementation a lot.

Secondly, it's not that helpful, and it's quite distracting and even an experienced and excellent driver, like me for instance, finds that entering searches and new destinations while driving is an accident waiting to happen. Changing the iPod to a new playlist or looking up a number in a cell phone directory is about as much distraction from the road as I want to risk. Messing with complex navigation system changes while driving has "hospital" written all over it.

It's a nice trick to know, but after trying it a few times, I just quit, and I don't miss it at all.

(These considerations do not take into account that a passenger could be doing the NAV changes, which could be the case in some instances, which would make a difference. But for solo trips, I just don't bother anymore.)

New destinations can be added just by touching the screen and moving the map while driving.

While it's true that, as noted above, "New destinations can be added just by touching the screen and moving the map while driving," this has limited use, especially if you want a destination that you cannot find on a map.

For the most part, destinations from "Marked Points," "POI," or "Previous Destinations" cannot be entered while the car is in motion, and the "in motion" cutoff happens at about 2 mph (even though my doors don't lock until 11 mph).

Exceptions that I have seen are the "Home" button which is always available for a quick getaway, and in my '02 SC430 (Gen 2), page 1, but not page 2, of "Previous Destinations" is available. Sometimes I will use this to load up 5 places I might want to add on the fly. However, on my '04 RX330 (Gen 3), the ability to access any of the "Previous Destinations" pages has been removed. In that car, the only destination available while the car is in motion is "Home."

Some POI's can be called up, like gas stations, so their icons appear on the map as you drive by (at the .5 mile scale or less). Touching the icon brings up an info screen, which often includes a phone number and a street address.

But that's about it, unless you enter the unlock code, which is designed for testing the system.

Still, having the NAV system is "much more better" than having no NAV system.

Probably would be a question best asked in the RX forum.

At least in the 06 generation, the hack via the volume control can be done with the vehicle in motion, although I agree it is dangerous.
