hey guys, whats goin on just picked up an '02 sc430 black /saddle leather all the options, and i freaking love it i did notice one when i was driving i heard a humming sound, more a motor charging or hydrualic refilling type sound coming from the trunk, it came on for a lil bit then went away. what is it that? and whats up with those quater windows can we get them to roll down too, i think the look would be phenominal with the windows down while the top is up. thanks,
The sound you are hearing is the power antenna going up and down a few inches as you change channels on the radio. My 02 does this but I don't know if the later ones do it also. I find it annoying. Lexus feels it helps radio reception but it just bugs me. I guess it depends on how often you change channels of the radio. You can test this by simply setting the radio presets for low and high station numbers and as you jump back and forth you will hear the antenna adjusting. If the radio station numbers are close together the antenna does not move.
The previous thread might be right but with an '02, I think it's more likely that the sound you're hearing is the primary fuel pump (located behind the rear drivers side seat). Turn your radio off completely to test this. To confirm this entirely, shut the car off. The fuel pump should continue to prime 5-10sec after the motor is shut down in the accessory position. Either way, fear not- it's totally normal!
I have that annoying buzzing sound only after I have used my AC for about ten minutes or so. I am glad that it is normal but I wish it would go away.

I also hear this sound, I don't like it, it is loud. I also think it is the fuel pump. I am tempted to have it inspected for warranty service. Has anyone else had it inspected? Do the newer models make this bothersome noise?
