Default Need Help with Code

The check engine light came on along with the VSC/VSC Off light on the sons 05 SC430. He hooked up the laptop with techstream and found the following codes

P0441: Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow. Current and Pending boxes are checked.

P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Pending box is checked.

P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak) Current and Pending boxes are checked.

Not sure what those codes are telling him

Thinking this might be a gas cap issue. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

Dennis

I've seen this problem written up several times over the years. I believe there are a couple of valves controlled by solenoids, either of which could be bad. From what I remember, the one in the back by the gas tank is a ***** to get at, and it's the more likely one to fail. Another valve exists under the hood. A vacuum leak in any number of lines in the evap system could also be to blame.

Search the forum for this and you might get some specific info on how to approach fixing it.

Dennis, Wilson is correct.
focus on a vacuum leak first.
this happened to me but I didn’t have the P0455, I had P0440 plus the other two.
I replaced my gas cap but it didn’t correct the problem.
it was vacuum lines on the drivers side of the engine.

remove the cover and carefully look and touch each line starting on the drivers side.
those are the most common and don’t focus on the fuel tank until you’ve confirmed the vacuum lines in the engine area.

Check the drivers side first.

Well no apparent vacuum leaks detected so ordered up a new OEM Gas Cap.
