Or you can just buy a longer hose!

UPDATE (Yet another...)

I finally got the engine and transmission mount replacement work completed. I bought the three parts at Sewell (two motor mounts, one transmission mount, see this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...n-diagram.html), which came to around $150.

My independent mechanic (no-Lexus) performed the installation work for $200. I did hand him a print out of the diagram showing the location of where the parts go which VVtiBob graciously provided in the other thread) which I think partially reduced the time it took him to perform the work.

I'll update this thread later with information on whether this repair job fixed the shaking engine issue and the evap hose getting disconnected issue.

UPDATE (One more...)

The car idles much much smoother now with the new motor mounts and transmission mount. I would say 75% of the shaking issue is gone, and hopefully the evap cable won't unplug itself anymore. I can still feel a very slight vibration in the steering wheel (if I hold it tight), but nothing like before (my mechanic confirmed the engine mounts were in very bad shape, but said the transmission mount was fine, but replaced anyway).

Before the repair the car would shake somewhat violently when I would start the engine (which I thought was normal), now it does not shake at all when starting the engine.

However, one issue which did NOT go away was the issue where the car made a deafening vibration-like sound when the front of the car was elevated (like when stopped at a traffic light on the top of a hill, with the front of the car sitting above the rest of the car). Unfortunately, this sound is still present, and is noticeable with the windows open and top up (but not with windows closed, or top down, interestingly enough).

Best of luck to anyone facing the same issue. I would say I am happy with the results, even if it cost me nearly $450 for the parts and labor (non-Lexus)

I have the P0440 code as well but my story is a bit different.

I purchased the car used and I found some neglect under the hood.
After removing the engine cover I found the hose in the picture (the hose with the green valve that says evap) broken in half.

I also found that the hose inlet evap canister/ solenoid/valve (the one that is on the air box) was broken off.

I sealed the hose back on the evap canister/solenoid/valve (the one on the airbox) and I replaced the hose.

I bought an aftermarket gas cap (will buy an oem from dealer this week)

Still getting the P0440 Code.

I am assuming the charcoal canister might be saturated due to over filling (another factor to consider because the code came up after I filled the tank)

Could over filling damage anything in the tank?
I also noticed when I remove the gas cap no vacuum noise occurs?
I was wondering if it is possible any damage could have occurred with those 2 hoses not connected?

Update on this thread, 6 months later still no issues with the cable getting unplugged. I am convinced the engine and transmission mount replacement fixed the issue.

Even though I have a GS300, I want to thank this thread and the people who posted pictures of the hose that connects to the EVAP system... It ended up being disconnected on my car as well!! I dont know if I did it 2 weeks ago when I did the spark plug tune up OR coincidence that I had bad engine mounts which I also replaced about 3 weeks ago... I just went outside yesterday and checked this hose.

You are welcome. I'm glad I was able to help.

And by the way, now over a year later and still haven't had the issue reappear. It seems solved.

2001 GS430 CEL w P0440, P0441, P0446. I checked the EVAP lines and found the exact same thing.
I didn't take my own pictures, but I found someone else's that show it perfectly.

I cleared the codes and have a little road trip later today that should prove the results.

UPDATE: Over three years after I've replaced my engine and tranny mounts, I have not had a single issue with the evap hoses / cables getting unplugged.

For anyone facing this issue, I would highly recommend they invest in getting this work done. It's worth the cost.

And I will second you. My SC did the same thing, then put new engine/tranny mounts and no more engine flex or hoses disconnecting!

Default 2002 SC430 Codes

Okay.. I have had these codes for quite some time. The emssion codes. Totally over it! Lexus replaced the gas hose due to slight crack. Gas Cap. The codes are cleared and would come back after 500 miles. Then recently came after alternator was replaced in Nov, within 75 miles, Oct damper shooting out gas ..That was replaced.

Engine Light still comes on..so Dec 2 back to Lexus. Replaced the canister and had a Idler pulley replaced.
Engine came on again...

Soo if any of you guys have an idea what could be next? Seems to be something this wonderful Luxury car in notorious for.

just remove the hose and take it down to the auto parts store...if you only have one car, drive it to the auto parts store.
