temperature control
is this the part you believe may need replacing?
i am not saying this IS the answer but it could contribute to the issue.

The ambient air temperature sensor is located just in front of the radiator and at the bottom of the radiator. See the photo below. As you mentioned, this temperature sensor relays information to your temperature display and also affects the performance of the AC system. I'm not completely sure, but I think the engine management system also uses this input. It doesn't sound like your sensor is so far off it would cause an engine issue. I think the retractable roof system also uses this temperature control. I may be wrong, but if the outside air temperature is very cold, your retractable roof will not operate.
Before buying the sensor, you may want to check to see if this sensor is dirty or has some other issue.

drove yesterday topless (the car that is), remarked to my wife that is why i do not like sun roofs. never use them. see, you either have a convertible or you don't.
btw, it took me quite a while to understand the top issue researching myself on the net. only recently saw this forum, looked a lot on the other lexus forum site. why there are two almost identical sites is beyond me, but there is a lot of things beyond my mental ability.
