Default temperature control

the outside temp appears to read about 5-8 degrees higher than actual. as the result, apparently the inside temp is not as selected. the fan, etc. work, but if i set it for say 72 degrees the actual inside temp is say 69 degrees. any ideas as to the cause and solution?

The temp sensor is located in front of the radiator. Its probably failing. I can look up the info later if you dont get an answer before then.

I'm at work driving a different car today so I am away from both my sources. I will look it up later though.

Check the interior temperature sensor…it’s right in front of your right knee on the lower dash…it gets full of debris…pull the lower dash for access. Very simple

i am not saying this IS the answer but it could contribute to the issue.

Good advice from Bgw70. I think Paul is probably right about the ambient air temperature sensor having an issue. If your temperature display isn't reading properly, that would be the likely cause. I believe this ambient air temperature control is the first product you referenced. The product from Coollex is a smog detector. Its purpose is to sense products of combustion. If you are sitting at a stop light and this device detects excessive "fumes" from adjacent vehicles, it will turn your ventilation system from fresh air intake to recirculated air. In that way, the system won't pull in the fumes to the passenger compartment.

The ambient air temperature sensor is located just in front of the radiator and at the bottom of the radiator. See the photo below. As you mentioned, this temperature sensor relays information to your temperature display and also affects the performance of the AC system. I'm not completely sure, but I think the engine management system also uses this input. It doesn't sound like your sensor is so far off it would cause an engine issue. I think the retractable roof system also uses this temperature control. I may be wrong, but if the outside air temperature is very cold, your retractable roof will not operate.

Before buying the sensor, you may want to check to see if this sensor is dirty or has some other issue.

thanks for your help and advice, i have ordered the temp. sensor (a cheap lexus part, is that possible?). i hope this is the end of my issues. i recently bought the car and have been in repair hell for 6 weeks. the top, after a few uses, refused to work. finally diagnosed as a hinge motor, $3200 part msrp, that is if the part were still manufactured (one has to, according to lexus and the repair shop, buy the entire assembly). anyway, sourced a part on ebay, the shop reluctantly agreed to put it on, the the top now works. oh, then i made a major mistake, my other cars play the radio by pushing a button, yeah, so does the lexus, but that raises the antenna on the lexus. and you guessed right, i went to the car wash. so much for the mast. that is on order as well. it will take a bit to arrive, saved a few on eBay, however it is shipped from japan.

drove yesterday topless (the car that is), remarked to my wife that is why i do not like sun roofs. never use them. see, you either have a convertible or you don't.

btw, it took me quite a while to understand the top issue researching myself on the net. only recently saw this forum, looked a lot on the other lexus forum site. why there are two almost identical sites is beyond me, but there is a lot of things beyond my mental ability.

When we bought our SC earlier this year, we went through many weeks of repairs trying to sort out drivability/suspension issues. It gets better! Just hang in there.
