The PS system is low on fluid for starters. With the engine off crank the steering wheel lock to lock 20-30 times while checking the fluid level.

That is something I have never seen before. That certainly is violent.

Did you buy new OEM Lexus PS lines? Have your original PS lines rebuilt by a professional hose shop? Use aftermarket PS lines?

And you did use Toyota Dexron type ATF or an aftermarket Dexron II/III/IV compatible ATF, right?

I don't have an answer from experience but I found some similar examples from youtube.

One involves a 240SX. Here the original poster said that his PS lines were reversed and that corrected his version of the problem. In another comment on the same video post someone else says they had this same issue with a reman PS rack in their Jeep and finally had to return the "warrantied part" (which I assume is the entire reman PS rack??) and that sorted his issue out... but in his case he did not mention crossed PS lines:

^^ In the examples above involving a Prius remember that those Toyota models have fully electric power steering systems without a hydraulic pump, however it seems that the same issue can occur.

What I am hearing in most of the comments on these video posts is that the issue has to do with the steering gear components which in the case of the SC are localized to the steering rack.

Your SC still has the original PS rack, correct? *IF* it for any reason needed to be replaced due to a malfunction or failure of some kind I only recommend getting a re-manufactured PS rack from Toyota/Lexus (P/N 44250-24110-84). I've had issues with some other 3rd party reman PS racks.

Edit:
Even if you have attempted to top off the PS system and get all of the air out of it, I can still hear that there is air in the system. Recently I had to have my PS rack replaced and after doing so there was an issue where one of the copper crush washers used to connect the high pressure line to the rack was leaking so badly that I couldn't drive for more than five minutes before the PS pump was grinding/whining again requiring me to top it off just to get it home or to to my service shop.

That doesn't relate directly to your wheel shaking issue but the system definitely has air in the system and is low on Dexron ATF fluid. Add to that, something in the part of the PS rack that regulates pressure isn't working right. Assuming, as you have stated above, that you definitely haven't put the PS lines in the wrong places I would look into the PS rack's condition.

First make sure there is no air into the system. The sound clearly indicates there is still air .

Are all the bushings on your steering rack in good shape ? The engine vibration can cause that rack to move here and there if its bushings are bad.

Check the sterring rack ends that connect to the wheels .. how are the bushings ? again engine vibration can cause the steering column to move back and forth.

I’m going to take a guess and say it’s your power steering rack motor, there is a screen inside of one of the ports on ps steering and I think when it’s blocked you’re not getting fluid properly to your rack and I think that’s what’s causing your violent shaking. And make sure whoever connected your power steering lines, they didn’t get them mixed up! If you get those installed backwards it will do that too!!

OP, I saw this thread and then realized you found it as well when you noticed your own issue.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...n-its-own.html

Since the video you posted is originally from the UR2klose's thread/issue back in 2009 I have to ask-- even if your main issue is the same violent wheel shaking, does YOUR SC also exhibit the clear signs of air in the power steering system (the grinding noise) just as we see in the example video?

Because in my post #6 in this thread with the first example video of the S13 240SX with the same violent wheel shaking issue you'll notice that there was NO sign of air bubbles being in the system. IE: no PS pump grinding sound due to air in the lines. And yet... same shaking issue you have and that UR2klose had.
