Difference between SC dashboard, huh?
I was looking at all the SC FAQs in
http://www.intellexual.net/sc400.html There are some good stuff in it.
However, I am a little bit confused as to its description on the SC's instrument clusters. It said the 92-93 ones had white illumination and the 94-97 ones had amber one. Hmmm.. for some reason, all of the 92-93 SCs I've seen didn't have the illumination quite as bright as that white one pictured in the website.. At best, those cars had clusters that looked a bit light greenish (I'd way it's somewhere between white and amber). Am I missing something here?
Does anyone have a better pix of the 92-93 and 94-97 instrument cluster that I can look at?
Thanks a lot!

I believe 92-94 were white....my 93 is white, no green at all. I thought orange started in 95 til 97, but maybe not.

Hmmm...
The funny thing is, I've looked at plenty of 92-93s and the cluster didn't look white to me at all.
At best, they're light spruce (very light yellowish green) and bears more resemblance to the amber color than white.
Let me look in ebay and see if I can find some differences between the clusters.
Thanks for your help.

Below is a link to eBay's auction. It contains the dash cluster for a 1993 SC. Clearly, the display does not look white to me.

For comparison purpose, here's another auction to a 1996 SC.

Look at their dash boards, I think they look exactly alike in terms of lighting. There is, no amber/white light to be distinguished whatsoever.
What gives?....

maybe it has to do with the backlights on the sc300 dulling over time? I have to admit, mine (93') are pretty amber.

Hmm.. that's what I thought before. But it's unlikely since I've just had my cluster replaced a couple of years ago.
They still look this way.
Funny, huh?

the clusters have blue/green caps inside them. over time the caps will turn clear from the heat.

That could be it!
Let me go try a bit later today and see if my dashboard does indeed, turn into an appropriate color.
Thanks

If possible, could you please take a pix of your 99' SC's dash illuminated?
Thanks!

the amber color in the EARLIER clusters is from:
Quote:
the clusters have blue/green caps inside them. over time the caps will turn clear from the heat.
in the later clusters it really does have amber gauges. the sleeves are white.
when the old cluster sleeves turn clear it burns the natural bulb color.
this is Biz's cluster. it is white-ish, but i don't know what year it is from.

that should be the cathode tube clusters i believe. definately much brighter white than the blue/green faded "amber" clusters.

Thanks for the pictures.
I guess the SC FAQs website is wrong about the cluster lighting.
Mine's definitely looks like the amber version.
