Default Quick questions from a newbie to the Forums

I have a 1997 SC400, platinum metallic, 176k miles, runs like new. Two quick questions I am sure have been answered but in different places and in various ways.

1. My climate control light is out. The actual system and black letters/numbers works flawlessly but I have no backlight/green illumination. The left side of it would come and go but now its been dead for 6 months and I just want to know what needs to be fixed and if its something that can be done easily by a local shop or by someone on here for a few bucks, Im in the Allentown area.

2. After a pretty harsh winter in PA, my brakes seem to be going a bit. Under hard to pretty regular braking over 30 miles per hour I can feel the brake pedal shudder a bit. Not serious but on a rainy day its a little more difficult. I like to have tight, quick breaks so what part could be failing? I have researched and found answer to be rotors should be turned. The brakes were done in oct 2010 so pretty long ago i guess.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone on here is local to the Lehigh Valley area in PA, I am always looking for someone who knows how to work on Lexus SC's and could use the help.

Thanks guys

1. You can send your climate control module out and get the LED's replaced/upgraded to color of your liking. But there have recently been some issues with the company that everyone on the forum likes to go to. I believe theres another company offering its services that promise none of the problems.
Or, you can just swap out the climate control with another working unit. You live in Florida so there should be no lack of SC's in junk yards, or parts on craigslist.

2. Everyone will tell you to just upgrade to LS breaks. Its a cheap upgrade that yields day and night results when compared to the stock SC breaks.

Both these issues have been covered a ton on the forum. Search around a bit and you'll find all the info you need, but this will get you pointed in the right direction.

1. there's just little lights in there that need to be changed in there. the hardest part, which is really easy actually is just taking the dash apart to actually get the unit out, then u peel it open and there's a couple lights in there i think they're like bt9 or something, i forget what the code for them is. you can find them on superbrighleds.com just figure out which ones they are.

2. check the brake pads, take the wheel off and see if the brake pads are worn, probably are if it's been 3 years.
if the brake pads are fine then your brakes might need to be bled, check the brake fluid in the engine bay. it's on the drivers side right by the windshield, it will say brake fluid on it.

that's basically all there is to it if your disc isn't worn off, which is really hard to achieve, but ppl manage it

Thanks guys. If someone local to Allentown, where I live now is up for the LED bulb replacement, I have cash and would appreciate the help. As for brakes, when replacing, would I buy ls400 pads and rotors for all 4 wheels or is there more to buy?
Thanks again

The LS400 brakes will only fit the front only. You will need to order 95 LS400 rotors, pads, and calipers, if not found locally. The rear can be upgraded to TT. The SC300 are quite smaller than the SC400.

or you can go TT all around, which is what i have, except with those, stock wheels won't fit at all. rotors and calipers are too big.

I've been wanting to do this upgrade myself, but the only thing I've ever really done to my car is just electrical stuff. I've only gotten as far as changing a flat tire.

any year mark 4 supra brake discs and calipers will bolt right on no problems at all. wheels it depends though, you could have really wide 16" wheels that might fit, but 17" should be safe no matter what. just have to try them on. minimum would be the stock TT wheels which are 17" not sure what width, they come in different widths. go on supraforums and ask there what wheels fit.
