Need help please 1992 lexus sc400
So i had installed new engine on my car about 8 months ago (1uzfe) and i was driving on freeway yesterday and all of a sudden my engine light and traction light turned on at the same time. this happened on my last engine too. but i notice my brakes gets super hot so could brakes be the reason why it turned on or is that something to do with obd1 sensor? i feel like it could be brakes because as soon as i let go of the gas the car slows down in matter of seconds and the rotors get really hot. I started my car this morning to see maybe the lights will go off because the brake are cooled down but it's still on?? your help would be much appreciated
Hi,
Sorry to hear about your situation.
My first guess would be something is causing the traction control system to activate, which is applying the brakes.
Are all four brakes getting hot?
Are you able to read the "blink codes" to see what fault code is showing up for the CEL?
I'm not too familiar with your system specifically, but most use the ABS wheel speed sensors to determine if there is a loss of traction by reading wheel speed at each corner and comparing the results and apply braking force to the wheel that's slipping. There may be other sensors used, such as inertia sensors as well as the VSS, TPS and steering wheel angle sensor, to determine what action is required.
I would strongly suggest finding out what codes are stored in the system and start from there.
After that, you can try and clear all codes in the system by removing the negative battery cable, stepping on the brake for a few, reconnect the negative cable and drive it to see if/when the problem reproduces. I'm sure it won't take long.
OBDI will at least give you the stored faults, but doesn't do much in the way of diagnostics. But at least having a little more info is better then none.
Also, have you searched CL and the Internet to see if someone else has encountered this problem as well?
Let us know what you find and good luck.
