Default alternator

Hello guys. first of all I want to apologize for not being a regular. Anyhow, I have a 92 sc300 with a 1jz swap, and my alternator went out. How can I order a new one for my motor at auto zone? I didn't do the swap, and my forte is Mitsubishi, I am a Toyota dummy, and newbie. the Lexus motor looks different on the diagram. Does the same alternator fit?

Yep, same alternator fits.
They're really expensive at autozone though. They wanted like $270 for it.
I ordered mine online at eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-SC300-ALTERNATOR-HIGH-160-AMP-1992-1994-/350916187730?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ASC300&hash=item51b43c1652&vxp=mtr
This is the one I got. It showed up in the mail last night and I just got home from work and am going to finish putting it in. It's a HO alt so I ran some 0 gauge from the alt to the battery to facilitate current travel. (I know 0 gauge is overkill and a run of 6 or 4 gauge with the current run left in the car is probably more than enough).

I'll report back once it's installed. They also have OEM alternators on eBay as well. Any alt for the sc300, mk4, or mk3 supra should fit. Their are just different amperages and you should be wary of that depending on what kind of electronics you have in your car. I think the 95-00 300's and 95+ mk4's had 100 amp alt's while the 92-94 and mk3's had 80 amp alts.

Not sure on that exactly, but I know it differs by year. But they all bolt up the same and are compatible with any car, but if you have HID's, or an aftermarket stereo system it's better to have a higher max amp rating if you aren't sure how much power you draw.

Most stock alternators are designed to have 20%-30% higher max amp rating than the car consumes at max draw. That way the battery is never in too much danger of draining out over a long period of time. So you can assume that the 92-94's probably draw ~60 amps at max draw. But things like aftermarket amplifiers an HID's can draw more power. Anyways, I should probably stop before this post gets too long.

Yes, they all fit an are interchangeable for the sc300, mk3, and mk4.
The sc400 shares an alt with gs400 and i think with the early gen ls400 but I could be wrong about that.

there are a lot of choices as said above, also from different years/models the connector may be either round or oval, but its easy to take a look on the back and see which you need or you can always change the connector on the harness if you get the wrong kind.

This is also good advice and definitely something I forgot.

Alt. installed and everything working fine so far btw. We'll see how long it lasts though.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but I suspect that the round plug is 100A, and the oval is 90A.

Just replaced the alternator onto my 1jz from a 1993 sc300. Just like eknine9 stated true plug&play. here is the picture of the connectors. The bad one is the one to the left, and the one I installed is the one to the right:
