Default Question about SC300 Ignitor - HOT

Guys,

In past threads I discussed my ordeal with a pesky misfire I absolutely cannot figure out after doing a head gasket job. Well, after basically all but giving up, I decided to look for vacuum leaks... while looking my hand was placed on the igniter ... it was scolding hot, as hot as the intake manifold around 125 degrees. Is this normal? Could someone tell me how hot their igniter is to the touch? Thanks all.

Also, can this cause a misfire if its a bad unit?

It's early on a holiday weekend, I know. Maybe someone could just touch the igniter that sits on the driver side strut tower today after they drive to the shore to help a fellow member out and let me know if theres is super hot, thanks bros.

Members:

Please someone before they shut off their car, just pop the hood for me and simple put your hand on the ignitor on the front drivers side strut tower and tell me if it is scolding hot, as hot as the intake manifold or if is just a normal temperature like the surrounding items.

I desperately am trying to rule this out. I almost flagged down someone locally with an SC to try it but didnt :P

Thanks

Fairly? Ive never encountered an electronic component that got so hot out in the open like that. I have a slight misfire and my mechanics think the ignitor may be going.

Could you touch it for me (sounds terrible, i know) after you go for a run real quick to see if it will almost scold your hand if you leave it on long enough? Thanks for the help man, i really appreciate it.

he won't have the right ignitor to try it and neither do I.
The TT ignitor gets scalding hot. The vvti ignitor does not get that hot actually.
The stock ignitor, I can't remember at all how hot it gets but I would guess its normal for it to be very hot.

did you go with different plugs or something that can affect it, did you recheck the timing after the job?
most importantly have you changed the distributor cap and rotor ever?
when is it mifiring? the more information the better its not easy to make a stock sc300 misfire its usually something straight forward.

Hey Ali, thanks for the info. I actually had a thread about this a while ago, i've basically changed everything. its such a little nuisance but it kills me that i cant find it. Heres a thread:

I guess the ignitor is out then. THanks, if anyone has any other info, lmk.

did you rehook the pcv properly, make sure the orings and all are good if you have a leak the car will run funny cause of the unmetered air, same with valve cover gaskets leaking. also check that your ecu does work for throwing codes, when you first put the key to on withouth starting it yet, the check engine light should come on and then go off. if it doesn't come on at all there could be another issue.
