Okay so I have a 95 sc300. Sunday I went out to get into the car and it started up for a second and died after 5 seconds of running. I have checked everything : timing belt, distributor, plugs are new, wires new, cap new, rotor button new.

After looking at it for a while I would turn the key on for 1 minute without cranking the engine over. then I would crank the engine over and it would start up for 2 seconds then die. Next thing Im going to do is change the fuel filter and see if that helps or fixes the issue.

But my true question is : If i were to install a walbro 485 fuel pump in the tank, would this cause any problems on the stock ge engine or fuel system? I dont want to buy a factory pump to just have to turn around and buy this pump when I do my GTE swap in a month.

 

Sounds a lot like the fuel pump. I'd listen for it running if I were you. Though, if it isn't the pump somehow, it most likely will be a fuel something issue. Don't know about aftermarket...sorry. GL.

 

Thanks for the reply. We tried listening for it but we didn't have the back seat out and couldn't hear it from the trunk. My buddy had his sc300 there and he couldn't hear his pump from the trunk either.

I'm gonna replace the filter first cause god knows when it was replaced if ever. And if that doesn't fix it then I'm going after the pump. I just need to know if it's okay to put that big pump in there on a stock fuel system. Hate to spend 200 on a pump from the auto store and spend another 250 on one for the gte swap that's going in it within a month or 2

 

Well no one is chiming in so I'm gonna do it and see what happens if it turns out I need a fuel pump.

 

Why not try out an inexpensive walbro pump rather than a $200 pump?

 

Well i dont want to spend the extra cash on a pump I will only use for a month or 2 then ditch it to by the $200 pump. I rather spend 200 now instead of 80 for the 255lph pump and then have to buy the other pump later. my car is going to be getting a 2jzgte swap soon and im going for 600whp and the walbro 485 pump will be plenty for that and also be e85 friendly if i choose to do e85.

 

I am running 255lph with everything else stock.I am assuming its the fuel pressure regulator would control how much fuel should go in your car for combustion. even if you put a 485 it still would not affect anything or shouldn't.My car would give up on me randomly where the old tired pump would stop working, 5 hours later it would fire back up, never gave me enough time to diagnose the problem. Ever since i replaced walbro, no problems what so ever. Its not even noisy!
