i was wondering if I can get away with not using spring compressors to get the old struts out to install my coilovers. I've read through a few howto's and they say they will be needed but I'd like to hear other peoples experience's
No, you will not need a spring compressor to remove or install your particular set up. If you had, lets say a new set of shocks or springs that came in separate pieces, then yes.
Just unbolt the sway bar end links, or if those are seized to hell like mine, unbolt the sway bar at the bushings/mounts. It makes it a whole lot easier and you don't need a compressor.
You don't need them to remove a factory shock/spring setup or install a pre-assembled and preloaded of-the-shelf coil over. You do need to rent a spring compressor in order to reuse your OEM top hat for an assemble-it-yourself coil over setup like the Gixxer_Drew or similar coil over-- or a regular shock and spring upgrade.
