Default Cam and crank seals

Doing a complete timing belt job in 2 weeks. Also gonna replace the 2 cam and front crank seals. I have a 95 SC400. Do I need any special tools to get to the seals? Do I need any special tools to remove and/or install the seals? I ask because the factory manual says to use a couple different SST (special service tools). If someone has done this without the SST's, please explain how you did it. Thanx all!

On the rear main seal you can drill a small hole in it, and then thread a screw and use that to pull the seal out. If the front main (crank seal) is similar, thats an option. Ill let you know soon though haha

If you don't have tools for it just CAREFULLY use a screwdriver to pull them out. Do not scratch the cam or crank though. If you do it will leak. Then use like a 3/8 extension as a punch and hammer in the seals as evenly as possible til they are flush.

The Schley (SCH64300) Lexus and Toyota Harmonic Damper Pulley Holding Tool and Lisle 58430 Shaft Type Seal Puller are the only special ttols needed to complete the timing belt job. I also invested in a CDI 50 - 250 ft-lb torque wrench. The Craftsman 5 -75 ft-lb was too small for this and other jobs.

I just finished the rear main seal, for the rear i would suggest removing the rear main seal cover plate since nothing will leak out anyways, but if the OP doesnt mind me asking
What are the torque specs for the rear main seal cover plate bolts and can i use toyota black FIPG to seal the cover plate instead of the grey foamy stuff?

Goodluck

Torque specs 52 in. lbf and use black FIPG. Use mp grease when puting it back in plate and push it flush
with the plate.

I really dont want to sound rude, but 52in-lb is only 4.3ft lbs. that doesnt sound at all right, i would guess somewhere closer to 12-15 ft lb? Enlighten me please. And what is mp grease?

Quoting my manual and I do agree sounds weak . I just did this and I would say I was closer to 10 -15 ft lb.
