Help- Replacement Shift Knob...
Got an automatic SC that I'm slowly trying to mod. I absolutely hate the stock shifter, which resembles a brown adult toy IMHO. Anyway, was cruising Ebay and found this one...
I like the fact that it makes the cockpit look like a jet fighter, since I've been secretly calling my car "Red 5". Anyway, the seller on Ebay said it wouldn't fit, and I was wondering if anyone out there knew if it could be easily modified to do so or if it just won't happen.

P.S. Here's the Ebay link...

I wanted to use the MOMO **** from my A4, but that didn't have an overdrive button.
I'll probably be smacked for it, but can anyone help me find the post on the forum regarding replacement shift *****? I must not be doing it correctly (yeah, that's what she said...)
Like you, all I want is something that looks a little less gimicky. Many of the sporty cars from the 90s used auto shifters like our stocker -- the Mitsu 3000GT and Eclipse come to mind.
I ended up with the whole shifter assembly from the GS400 so I'll see if I can swap just the rod itself and end up with the slightly less phallic shifter.
i really like this one:

i have a 98 btw with the 5 speed automatic gearbox, so no overdrive or shift lock button.

Id say yank that momo and rock it in the SC

I'll eyeball what else is available without an OD switch; that's easy to remedy and I don't have heated seats so I've got blanks galore.
Moo, I was thinking of moving the traction control to the side of the chunnel or underneath the radio- can it be done? I want to do the 5 speed surround mod.
From memory this is the scheme for the switches.
OD:
2 white wires
disconnected = OD on
connected = OD off
ECT:
4 Wires (2 brown/green, 1 different color, 1 different color)
Brown/green wires connected = ECT Power mode
Disconnected = ECT economy mode
Trac (use button):
3 wires (2 white and 1 black)
2 white wires connected and disconnected send a signal to turn trac on/off
black wire = ground for switch light
I'll have a look at it tomorrow to be exact.
