cant take off panel with door closed unless you tear the panel off, like literally break it.. that just sounds terrible...

Clean shots speaks the truth bro..

I had this problem about 2 weeks ago. Ended up being the door actuator went bad. Had to break/tear the interior panel to get access to the latch assembly

There is, as I recall, a metal cable from the door handle to the lock. You separate the door handle from that cable and thereby from the lock and then open the door.

I called AAA for a lock-out service. They slim-jimmed the door lock. I got the panel off from the inside without damaging it but, crumbs, I did not take pictures. The statement above is what I recall doing but that could have been on something else. Anyone have the parts diagram?

Is the blue cable still attach to the lock? If it is, try pulling it. And while doing that pull the door handle at the same time. Hope that helps

i had to reach way back in the back and pop it out of the door lock mechanism to open it. once it's open you can re assemble ****. and order new yellow door lock rod clips from toyota too. if you bend the rod, you might be SOL.

I dont want to make a new thread so I thought I would ask.

Has anyone made the exterior door lock work without the rod? My pass. side is missing the rod and its getting annoying having to lean over each time for a pass. to come in.
