Default odd problem: tail light indicator

my indicator keeps coming on intermittantly,... one for a day or two,... off for just as many,... had someone push the brake pedal,... went back,...and saw no lights out,...even while the indicator was trippin....

any thoughts?

Default tail light

I had the same problem with mine when i bought the vehicle. I did all the same checks but just figured the indicator was screwed up. Finally, one day i was driving to a car wash and my friend was following me, he pulled in the car wash with me and said that one of tail lights looked dim. I got out and looked at the light and noticed when i looked real hard that there was a little portion that was dimmer than the rest. I replaced that light and now it hasn't come back on. I dunno if your problem is the same, but I would try it anyway.

NAZTY97, you will need to replace at least one rear light soon. Whenb the light come son an dthen off intermittently, thi sis just letting you know that a light bulb is about to go out. I dunno if i am 100% correct about his procedure, but to see which lights its referring to, w/o the car o: if you trun on ur headlights and it comes on, then the rear taillight that r on w/ the headlights r going out. If thats not it, then press the brake w/ the car off and if teh light comes on, then its the rear brake lights. For the blinkers, turn the car to start, and turn the blinkers on. If its the reverse lights, it should come on when the car is in reverse. You can always refer to the car manual as it tells you how to check the lights. Hope this helps.

Default cool... i'll try that (again)

I haven't been able to pin point exactly when it does it,... I know for certain it comes on when the lights aren't on,... sometimes it does it when the lights are on,.... i don't know if it's ever happened due to puttin' it in reverse,...but then my foot is probably on the brake when i'm puttin' it in reverse,... but I'll see if I can recreate the problem... today it hasn't come on.

if it doesn't come on when ur lights r on, then it is either your blinker or brake lights that are about to go out

its comes on at all times, night day and everything, I check all the bulbs to see if any are getting weak and all are perfect... its just kind of... annoying driving with that light on all the time... and if I replace a bulb- I dont have a clue which one or which side is going out

Had the same problem with mine. A rusty brake light socket was the culprit. A battery terminal wire brush cleaner did the trick. A lot of the SC's have had headlights which retain moisture, mine also holds water in the tail lights, which caused this problem.

Yes, those things are pretty sensitive.

In fact something weird like that happened on mine, the light on the dash was on and all the lights in the back were fine. I looked at the 3rd brake light and one of the two bulbs was slightly black. I replaced that and everything was fine.

I have the same issue. I upgrade my lights to the '97+ lights and I also upgrade the Tailight Failure Module...however, I need to upgrade my Blinker module...which I haven't done yet. I'm not sure if that will make the light turn off but I have my fingers crossed...

Yeah, that light is rather annoying... I might have to go with Lex400SC's method...

In my case, I had the same problem of an intermittant light, every couple days. It was for sure brake light related, because that is the only time it would come on.

I closely inspected every light in the back brakes, and noticed that the filament on one wiggled when I slightly thumped the bulb.. That is why the intermittant problem.. Hit a bump, and the filament would make a bad connection, then hit another one, and the light would work fine.

These are the tough problems that can drive you crazy.

Default my $.02

I know what I will do when I get an indicator on the dash and find no bulbs out - I will replace ALL the bulbs in BOTH taillights at the same time and be good for another 120K - -
