The past 2 days its been raining like crazy in NJ so that might have something to do with it. 5 months ago I discovered that water was leaking into my car causing my amplifier to fail and stop working. That was replaced an my stereo started working again.

This morning after coming home from work around 5 am, Upon sitting in my car, I smelled something funky and gasey like. My co worker described it as "perfumes". Anyway so after i got home, 20 minutes later my alarm went off. shut it off an than it happened repeatedly. my dad woke up an we decided to see what was going on. I sat in the car and all the dashboard lights were going on an off without the key in the ignition! The auto tilt stopped working. I turned the key an the car started right up but idk what was the problem.

We popped the trunk and smoke was coming from my trunk! and that smell again! I pulled off the trunk cover an exposed the gas tank area until all the smoke went away. What could this problem be??????????????

I disconnected the battery in hopes of trying to get some sleep tonight but had to post it up here CLubLexus first.

nothings back there right? im guessing its the amps and speakers and such that got wet man. u turned ur radio on too when smokes fly? Your car is leaking somewhere i bet

 

Definitely something is wet and shorting out. Pull all the carpet back and see what you find.

 

shorts do crazy things to different systems that are "unrelated".

Did you ever fix your leak in the rear that caused your first short?

 

Be careful, once electronics lose all of their magic smoke they don't work anymore.

I would highly recommend searching for the leak, and prior to that I would have pulled the fuse to the amp (personally) so that you don't run the risk of catching anything on fire right next to a big tub of gasoline.

 

thanks for the advice guys. So i checked it out, and I plugged my battery back in for a lil bit and my dash lights turned on without the keys. about 5 minutes later my whole interior has smoke in it. i pulled the plug on the battery. The smoke was coming from under the steering wheel. Pulled the carpet an messed with the fuses a little. IM stumped

 

Let it all dry, and then start to find the cause. I don't suggest plugging the battery back till it dries, you don't want to cause any "more" damage than what's already done.

 

Sounds like something is shorting out. If you can, describe the smell. Does it smell like burning plastic?

 

be careful man, you dont want stuff to short circuit by your gas lines.

 

na it smells like fumes, hard to inhale
