well i just recently notice that my passenger side mirror was moving back and forth a little while i was driving, i didn't think much about it. Today i went to wash the car and when i tried to wash the mirror, the whole thing was loose. it wouldn't lock back into place or anything. anyone ever had this problem?
here's what i'm talking about, see how you can just turn it back and forth and pull it right off? usually it'll lock back into place but now i couldn't figured the correct way to do it. i'm just gonna say Fawk it and just glue that b*tch back on.
theres a spring inside that has like a horseshoe shaped washer to keep the spring compressed it came off you have to take the mirror apart and put the washer back on

thanks for the reply. so that means i have to take off the whole assembly before i can actually take the mirror itself off? how do i go about getting the mirror off, are there screws holding the mirror in place?
yes remove the upper door trim remove 3 or 4 screw/bolts and unplug it...remove outer screws then you have to pop off the mirror to access the rest of the screws inside
got it off but don't even know where to start. i don't see any outer screws around the mirror housing but only see them on the triangle part, i don't think i need to take those screws out to get to the mirror. i tried to take the mirror housing apart in half but seems like i'll break something if i do it any harder.
This same problem happened to me today on my 1993. Mine was also the passenger side mirror.
I am going to follow what has been described here so far (literally pull on the bottom of the mirror plate itself to pop it out?) and take a few pictures.
Funny thing is that I can't recall anything external that could have caused this. My mirror wasn't hit in any way.
you have to pop off the mirror i cant remember exactly how i did it but it wasnt hard just pull up on the mirror and look to see where it hooks on
Okay, I tried this as described but I was afraid of breaking the assembly. Do you just pull hard on the mirror until it pops off so that you can access the pivot column? Will this damage the mirror backing?
I had the same issue and I'll be honest....... I liquid nailed the post and stuck the mirror back on. (Obviously) hasn't moved since..... 3 years ago. The mirrors on my SC haven't moved in 9 years otherwise, I could care less if they have the ability and who the hell folds their mirrors for ANY reason anyway. Not me.... I liquid nailed it and haven't thought about it since. It wasn't just done as an easy out, it was done because I never would have wanted it to fold anyway given the option.
Pull the mirror glass from the bottom and then when it comes loose lift it up out of the slots and this will expose the screws you need to take off to get to the spring and clip, I do have the spare pieces if you need them to either fix that one or take your pieces and make mine work again.
I could sell it for 15.00 but shipping would kill it most likely.
