Yea even though my 300 sounds pretty cool; the 400 with axle back exhaust sounds so out of place(for a lexus/toyota/jap car) and mean that I love it !

There is nothing more exclusive than a 97 5spd, they only made 120!
Yeah, I guess, but anyone can recreate one with a 5 speed swap and a 97 body kit. To do the same with 98+ SC400s, you'd have to swap, in essence, the entire car.

Now if you wanna make it a beast & build it slowly. I still have my VVTI 1uz block. Id be willing to sell it cheep. Only thing wrong with it is #6 rod bearing & obviously the crank @ #6. But the early 1uz's like yours has forged crank in it. Like 94 or 95 & up dont. So technically you could swap your crank right in to the vvti block.

The auto has been long gone man. I actually bought the car planning to manual swap it. I wouldn't even drive it until the swap was complete. I would only buy a VVTI if I found a sweet deal on the full engine though. Honestly I will probably just end up just supercharging what I have. Who knows what will actually happen when the time comes. What exhaust setup are you running currently that is dissatisfying and why are you abandoning the S&S headers?

What exhaust set up are you running right now? you'll gain 31whp on cams or y pipe exhaust or both? I've been out of the 1uz loop for a minute now since getting my 1jz running, but I just bought a new set of S&S 2gen to replace my current cracked 1st gen. I am thinking of redoing my exhaust system too, but I am more of a highway type of guy So i'm going xpipe and deleted cats for more flow, although I loose bottom, but it will create a better top! Also deleting the cats to put flex pipes insted, so hopefully I don't have to keep welding these new headers like my previous ones, that $h!t just got old.

It's not too bad since I have access to a lift, they come out in 20min, but since I don't weld, I hate having to bug the neighbor. Also, the stupid lawnmower sound once they start leaking is sad to have on a lexus imberrising too.

I know what you mean about the embarrassing exhaust leaks haha, but 20min damn! That's insanely fast. I feel like getting them out of the SC would take a good minute.

I might have more room on the GS vs SC, but after taking them out a few times, lets just say I know exactly what tools I need and what needs to be removed. And I do all this for a miserable 17-20whp gain

I have a 98 SC400 and it is my all-time favorite highway cruiser. I find the VVTi and 5 speed to be a great combo. So damn smooth!

I would never criticize someone for choosing otherwise, but no way would I change for a 5-speed I6.

depends on the condition of the two, but if both of the conditions where the same, id have to go with the 5 speed.

Yes! Get a GS400. It's a lot beefier compared to my old '94 SC4.

That's still a 5spd auto, wish it had a tiptronic like the GS

I would like to know what a moded 98+ with its fat suit off can do. If I get my hands on one, that is the plan For now I will just keep crusing my 1 of 120
