Yes I belive he is. I've followed his build threads closely, cuz man, the guy really knows how to build a car. spdrcr771 is definately one of the members I look up to and dream of one day doing to my vvi-t V8 what he did to his..

To the OP; i personally wouldn't trade the SC4 for the 5spd. I rather just save up for a 95+ 5spd but @ that price range I'd rather buy a 2GS

1. 98+vvti 400 swap into any other SC is super hard cause of the transponder security system in the 98-00 cars. So you pretty much have to have the whole 98 car to do this swap. So scratch that idea.

2. vvti 1uzfe block is, identical to a 3uzfe block. the only differance is the bore size. So all I did was swap the block, cause I spun #6 rod bearing. If you pop my hood, you cant tell its a 3uz. I hardly think that I butchered my car. In fact Im the only 98SC430 around, which makes me 1 of a kind. Thats cool.

3. on the CEL 5spd swap, cartmill got it done, here's your thread, or sign lol jk.

spdrcr771 your 3uz swap sounds good, im sure your making some decent numbers, and thanks I didnt know that the 5pd swap CEL issue was fixed

of course if your engine was damaged like you said there is absolutely nothing wrong with swapping an engine or modifying it.

The 98-00 sc400's to me are a great car due to the rarity and extra power and features, i would always advice people to keep those cars as close to stock as possible.

In my opinion if someone wants to some serious modding to an sc just pick up an older one and go nuts

(edit) Fonzy ive never actually weighed a 1uz or a 1j/2j but the info is readily available, the 1uz is definitely a lighter engine.

I love the people who have 2JZ boners that make blatantly false statements about the 1UZ.

Anyway. I would take the 400 over the 300. They're much more valuable and exclusive.

5spd SC is a lousy car until you turbocharge it. Because of the emission test laws I wouldn't want to turbocharger a 96+ car. A SC400 with an intake, exhaust and even a 3UZ block would be more California friendly IMO.

My factory VVTi 1J rules all!!! lol

The 1UZ even in it's early form is a beautiful motor. I dd my 31 Soarer and I won't swap it since it is so nice to drive. I'd love to get a later model 1UZ w/ 5spd auto in there though.

GS-checked GS4xx are fun, unless you plan to go NA-T or swap

There is nothing more exclusive than a 97 5spd, they only made 120!

spdrcr771, the 3UZ bottom end swap is pretty damn cool. Are you the only person on CL with that swap? I always think about putting a VVTI 1UZ is my '93 but then I always tell myself boost would be a more cost effective option. I am running standalone already so it really wouldn't be a difficult swap for me except for the cost vs performance. If I ran into a cheap VVTI 1UZ...
As far as I know, im the only one on CL or Lextreme that has done this. See now you are the perfect canidate for the swap, cause of the stand alone. So you dont have to deal with the security system problem. Id just say if your gonna do it, you gotta do the 5spd auto (a640e) tranny or 5sp manual with it too. Now if you wanna make it a beast & build it slowly. I still have my VVTI 1uz block. Id be willing to sell it cheep. Only thing wrong with it is #6 rod bearing & obviously the crank @ #6. But the early 1uz's like yours has forged crank in it. Like 94 or 95 & up dont. So technically you could swap your crank right in to the vvti block.

No not currently, but if I were to do the Lextreme cams & 5spd manual I would be. Im currently @ 252whp & 241wtq on a 100 degree dyno day. Im changing my exhaust back to a Y pipe setup. I should be some where around 270whp & 270wtq. They have reported 31whp on the Lextreme VVTI cams.
