Well this is interesting. I have a 92 sc400. Just recently this problem started and I'm still trying to determine when it occurs. It appears that the car starts fine when the engine is cold. If I run an errand and try to restart it, it takes several attempts to restart it, sometimes 4 and my son said 20 times for him. He walked home and left it the other night as the car had just come off the freeway and he didn't wanna wait for it to cool down. When it happens no CEL on dash
How does the coolant temp sensor control the start circuit? cut the fuel? the spark?
I had to replace the ignition switch 2 months ago. The daytime running lights came on when it was parked in the driveway (they come on as soon as ignition is turned on in Canada). The next day I drove home, turned the ignition off, took the keys out and it stayed running like the ignition was still turned on. I had to disconnect the battery to shut it down. The used switch seems to have solved that issue.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I thought I'd try to do some research instead of start replacing parts.
Is there a way to test the coolant sensor? I too would like to know why this would effect hot starts. I would expect it to maybe run rich and at least "cough" a bit.
What is odd is odd on hot start is the engine turns over, but makes no attempt to start or stumble. Kind of like it is getting no fuel and thus the reason I by-passed the Fuel Pump ECU.
Letting is cool just 10 min or so (engine still hot to touch) and it starts just fine
OK, found problem, it was the fuel/ecu relay...the odd part is I replaced the relay only a few months ago when my fuel pump ECU went bad (just to make sure it was not the ECU before replacing it).
I purchased the new relay from Autozone or Advanced auto parts. Has no brand name, made in Taiwan.
I've been having trouble trying to start my 03 ES300, and of course, it is very hot right now, but I don't know if it's a "warm start" issue, or heat related in general, but when I try to start, it seems like it struggles for a bit, then actually starts.
Other times, it has no problem. I've been wondering if a bad relay somewhere is the cause.
