Default Octane vs Intercooler

I was wondering if a higher octane (adding an octane booster) can compensate in a forced induction engine if you're not running an intercooler. Does the increased heat of the compressed air entering the cylinder cause increased wear and tear on the engine?

Uhhhhh, you're not going to have a forced induction motor without an intercooler. the theory of doing so is absolutely pointless, why would you want to pump scorching hot air into an already hot motor?

That and octane boost does not work.

why not just get an IC, not very expensive nor complicated and you dont have to keep adding additives and whatevers

Funny how all you 2JZ guys jump all over the forced induction posts. I guess I should clarify my situation.

I have an SC400 (1UZ) and am looking to run the new Eaton's new TVS supercharger. They're the latest brand of Eaton S/C and can handle some extreme boost; Bullet cars has a kit for them. Superchargers don't necessarily need an intercooler if they're running at a low boost because they're not channeling hot exhaust gases nor do they spin at such high RPMs as a Turbo. There's a bunch of guys out there running low boost superchargers without an intercooler no problem. Superchargers do need to deal with the issue of detonation as you increase the boost though.

The problem I'm facing is possible clearance issues. The supercharger already pushes its head up to the edge of the hood. I'm worried that the addition of an intercooler wont allow the supercharger to fit completely under the hood. The last thing I want is a stupid looking hood scoop on my SC. The M112 faced this problem when guys were trying to mount them on the 1UZ block.

From what I have read, an intercooler is not necessary unless you want to run more than 6psi of boost. You should be able to use your stock ECU and injectors as well.

There's a reason supercharged cars are not running higher boost numbers without an intercooler, that's because they can't on regular gas, unless you have a method of monitoring and manipulating how your engine runs.

It's true that the intake charge is not as hot as the charge from a turbocharged application. However, the charge is going to be hotter than the intake temperature as the charge will inherently increase in temperature as it is compressed.

The laws of physics state that when air is compressed it heats up thus an inter/after cooler is always needed for optimal performance and by that I mean a well matched heat exchanger not the biggest one you can find.

haha.. says the guy running 612whp on pump gas.. lol

Definitely true but its a solution to not running a FMIC..

And for a Supercharger setup, meth really isn't necessary unless you pushing at least 9lbs.. Anything less, you don't need to run an meth and can run the supercharger without IC..

nothing wrong with not running an IC but you would see better gains at same psi levels. dont waste your money on octane booster, it fouls up your plugs.. run race gas or meth but should be fine for low boost till 9psi. and the newer superchargers have internal gears which make it spin way faster than the input speed. so its still spinning fast but yea not at turbo speeds..
