first motor pull !!! any tips?
I bought a cheap sc400 for parts a while back and I want to pull the motor out of it,
any tips on how to actually get this done?
I have a motor lift, basic tools, and an impact wrench.
How hard it it to pull the motor from an sc400 espically for a first timer?
Ive put in coilovers and done maintenance on the car that about how fa my experience goes
My weekend plan I need opinions on this
ok I have two 2 sc400s at the moment, a 92 red one and a 95 white one
I ran my white one up a curb one night about a 2 months ago and has been sitting every since. Here is a link btw https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...-diagrams.html
The resulting damage from what I could see was
a cracked upper oil pan,
the lower pan silicone seal gave way and will need to be resealed
the subframe got a good chunk ripped from it and is cracked
I recently bought a non running 92 sc400 for $760
I plan on keeping the motor n tranny for parts or backup and I plan on swapping the following parts
upper oil pan
maybe lower oil pan,
subframe
steering rack
Why not get the 92 running, it was side swiped in the passenger and the rear quarter panel has lots of bondo. Windsheild is cracked plus I simply do not like the color. Interior is trashed, paint is trashed, too much work. My white 95 sc has a color im in love with, a nice non ripped interior and paint is good for its age. Plus I've done lost of tedious fender work to get my 19s to fit
I have one engine lift or cherry picker, and two motors that will be needed to be held up to swap subframes. That simply wont work.
So my weekend project will be to pull the motor out from the 92 making easy access to the subframe, oil pan, and steering rack
Second use the lift to hold up the motor in the 95 while I put in the oil pan, subframe, and steering rack.
This will my first time doing any of this. I have some help from my cousins who are mechanics.

ok this might sound stupid but when u say loosen u mean completely remove?
2 post lift.. are you planning to pull just the engine or the transmission with it? if you are pulling the entire engine with tranny then put the car on 4 jackstands bc you will need the clearance when the engine+tranny are tilted to come out. if not then do what pj82nd said. if you don't have mechanical experience i wouldn't tackle this alone though. it seems the guys that post on this forum have lots of experience around cars more than other forums i have been on. i am a mechanic so these type of difficulties come with the territory the only thing we have to look forward to in the profession is comparing how a certain job aren't as hard as others such as the cursed bmw or crappy domestics. have fun and take pictures and take breaks when you get angry.

I just did my first engine pull today. Everything went smooth but Im having a tuff time getting it back in.
Tips pointers:
Do drain all your fluids-coolant, oil, trans oil. I thought I had all the trans oil out but when I tilted the engine to get it out. I had a puddle of trans fluid all over the driveway.
Make sure you have all the necessay harnesses are disconnected. Dont forget the throttle cables.
If you can have someone help up an extra hand is always useful.
