I started tearing into the engine and pulled the #2 cylinder plug. The threads of the plugs have gasoline on them. I have not pulled another plug yet, but I have pulled the wires and fuel seems to be evident in the 4 spark plug wells that I have accessed. HAs anyone seen this. Could this be normal. A little bit puzzled.
#7 cylinders spark plug wont come out. Its buried on the passenger side and the socket is acting like its not even getting on the plug. Just spins. I wonder if the PO stripped out the bolt portion of the plug and its just round now. Any ideas for getting this out?
So I have discovered that the reason I cant get the plug out is because the plug wire grommet is stuck on the plug, not allowing the spark plug socket to seat. I have fought with getting the rubber piece out for about an hour and a half. I googled the issue and some other guy on another forum had the same issue. So I have to goto the hardware store tomorrow and look for some small mechanical fingers to try and get it out.
The plugs that I did take out were not very tight. So I do not believe they were torqued in there very well.
I'm interested in the responses to your questions. I'll be replacing my spark plugs soon and won't be surprised if I come across some of the same issues. Plus I think I have a misfire issue..
Got the #7 spark plug out. Real PITA. Rubber grommet that is one end of the spark plug wire was stuck down there. Had to slowly disassemble it a piece at a time so I could get the wrench on the plug. Thank God thats out.,
yeah... hate when the rubber thing comes out of the socket.
fortunately for me, I have a set of really long needle noses.
as for the wetness, you sure that it's not oil? looks to me like the oil gaskets around the plug holes are leaking, causing what you would see. it's "normal," but needs to be fixed. gaskets (known as "spark plug tube seals" in many places online) can be gotten just about any place.
Ha I was just about to say it's a grommet. First time I changed my plugs one got stuck on the last plug (of course) and I didn't have extra long needle nose pliers. Had to put it back together and go to the store for the pliers. Thank god the NGK wires I put in have one piece boot/grommets.
