Default Light stuff

I have just acquired a 1992 SC in great shape with only 140K on the clock. New timing belt, plugs and wires, DONE. The speedo light is out, how do I change it? Also want to replace the headlight bulbs with brighter halogens,,,, any suggestions , please.

It should be a crime to make your first 30 posts without search requirements built into the forum...... or at least read the stickies.

Congratulations on your purchase. If you have the money, go to Lextech.org to fix your gauge cluster lighting. You do have to send it in, but I hear they do a great job and it is well worth the wait.

If you want to replace your headlights with brighter halogens, you can go to your local auto parts store and look for Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. They cost about $50-$60 a set. Alternatively, you can also get an HID kit for $60 from hidextra.com. HID's will be brighter than the average halogen bulb so you may want to take that into consideration. The bulb type number is 9006 if you decide to replace your current halogens.

Thanks. I did search and came up with zip. Which is strange because I know the speedo light is a common problem. The guages all work. However the speedo light does not. Is this a simple matter of replacing a bulb?

If I send the cluster to LexTech can the car be driven while the cluster in out for service?

Yes, you can still drive it, but I wouldn't advise it. The airbag light will come on which can be cleared, but I hear it's a lot of work to clear. It's not worth it to drive it without the cluster in my opinion. I'm also not sure how long the whole Lextech process takes.
