Hello!

i become next Saturday my ´97 SC400 with 16.000miles from a old man in Austria

i will change in the next months the Muffler.

I will buy axle-back mufflers for my car.

But which?

i prefeer the Tanabe...

but i see the Megan....

and on ebay the TOP SPEED Pro

My Question is: have anywhere mounted this rear sections? it fits perfect or gives problems? The exhausts are loud or is the loudness legal? i see, the Megan have silencers. is this without loud? In Austria, the police is very sensitive of loud exhaust

i will have a deep V8 sound, not high screaming.

Or gives some other axle-back exhausts on the world to buy? i found only this 3, not more. No Rod Millen or Greddy/Trust.

Thanks for help!

greets from Austria/Europe

Tom

I'm not a fan of the applications available for the SC4. I want to do a custom setup hiflow cats, x pipe, and magnaflow mufflers. Hopefully I can keep it around < $600.

Hello!

Thanks for your idea! a complete new exhaust system maybe next year but in Austria need you all parts on your car legal with the axle-back i have a chance to go legal. with DIY Exhaust is this not possible is not easy here. If are the back boxes registered in the papers, i can mod the rest if the exhaust system

Have you hear on of this mufflers? Have you a video and pics from your exhaust system?

Thanks!

I know a few guys here have this setup. I'm piecing it together right now. I've heard the mufflers themselves great exhaust note. We don't have inspections where I live thank god .

thanks for the answers!

the 5zigen is great, but too loud in Austria, you have max 85dB this is nothing, but for register in the papers, i can mod the exhaust for this time to 85dB ;-) )

i hope, i can bring home on saturday my SC

I also have a '97 SC400, and have been searching this forum and elsewhere to find a quiet aftermarket exhaust that would give a "deeper" v8 tone but remain quiet at cruise, with no drone. I know the Tanabe advertises something like staying below 93db, but of course that isn't 85db. If 85db is the benchmark limit for "normal" drive by (i.e. not revving it out) you would probably be OK. Anybody else here know anything else? Do you pick up any meaningful power or efficiency gains with the Tanabe (or any axle back)?

HY!

Thanks for the answers

kln552... i have the same question as you. is a other axle back exhaust as the original good for more power? or only more sound? i never seen a original exhaust open to see the pipes. Maybe somewhere have a picture from a opened exhaust.

My favorite is also the Tanabe with other tips. A friend installed 2 years ago on his sc400 from canada (with the big resonators after the 3rd converter) the megan axle back, not louder, only a little bit deeper. And not more power to feel. Maybe a problem from the "canada resonators"?

Are these the magnaflow racing muffs? If yes, what model # are they? I was thinking of these muffs

So is the Tanabe worth the 600 or so dollars?

I see the Megan exhaust is half the cost. Is the Tanabe that much better?

Is it even worth getting an axle back while keeping stock pipes?
