im going to Get an 94' SC400 soon and it has rather high mileage(181,000miles).
and i just recently found an JDM shop in SFL that has newer engines for around 1,000 or so (includes trans), is this a good idea?, inputs please

If you plan on keeping it around to put another 100k on it i would say sure, but if your not planning on haveing it for atleast 70k then dont worry about it. Just do your major services. Timing belt, water pump, timing belt pullys, when you do that replace the front main seal, cause your all ready there & if thats never been changed, it probably leaking, plugs & wires, caps & rotors, and just drive it. Oh and service the tranny, hopefully its been done on a regular basis other wise,a good service could make the tranny go out. Good luck

why not just wait until the current one dies? Some of the SC400's have close or over 300k miles. Get it and with the 1k you are thinking of spending just do a full service on it.

you can find an engine and tranny for less than $1k. probably average would be $600-700 for both. 181k isnt bad for SC's. Thats close to normal for old cars like ours. But yeah, your better off putting the money into maintaining it.

Yeah, thought much, when i first get the car, tune-up immediately, so waiting for it to die/using money for maintenance is a good idea, why do people say this car is so much to keep running?

I'm at 293k.
Don't worry about getting another engine. It sounds as if this JDM shop of yours would probably sell you a jz engine which requires more work to put into our SC4's when compared to an SC3.

I mean, you never specified what engine for your 400. You just said newer engines.

I think people would be able to help better if they new exactly what you were asking.
Good luck on your project.

Just keep the one you have. No need to fix it if it isnt broke. IMO these cars are extremely cheap to maintain. Ive owned just...a few...ha

Either of those engines are gonna cost you over $1k probably and both need modified wiring harnesses (Not 100% sure if the 2jzgte does).
