Default 90K service with Lexus - UPDATE

90K service is nothing more than a 30K service.

So, I plan on doing everything myself except for these...

Timing Belt - $530.00
Water Pump - $290.00 - $190 (part) $100 (labor)
Tranny Service - $110.00
Rear Diff Oil - waiting for a price.

and since they will have it for more than 2 hours I get a loaner, I am going to ask for a stick IS300... but I doubt I will get it.

Am I missing anything else important I should let the dealer handle? Thermostat maybe?
How does the pricing sound... I know $530 might be a little high on the belt, but I would rather they do it than save 100 bucks.

Default Labor for waterpump?

If they are going to change the water pump at the same time they are doing the timing belt they should not charge any additional labor because they have to take off the waterpump anyway to do the belt....

because if you know how to do a oil change then you can do this ..its actually easier

they dont even change the filter when they do it ..or so they (lexus )told me

they just drain and refill

what did they tell you

guys

this is something very easy to do

all you need to do is jack up the car

find the trans pan

3/8 ratchet and socket 12mm or 14mm cant remember

unbolt drain plug let the 4 quarts drain

put drain plug back in

get a large thin funnel

start off with 3 quarts

start car

and add remaing quart till your good to go

4 quarts around $6 bucks a piece over the counter

half price if your a good bullsh*tter

so itll either cost you $12 or $24

Thanks for the advice, I think I will do that myself also.

What do you think about the labor for the pump?

cant really comment on the labor for the puimp

dont know how many hours they get for it

but on the timing belt

$530 for piece of mind is well worth it

if the T belt goes ..the engine is screwed

When changing the timingbelt you don't have to remove the water pump to get to it. The dealership is right. This is a typical prices at the dealership.

Just checked my handy .pdf repair manual and JPI is correct, the water pump does not get removed when changing the timing belt.

Changing the pump is a little more than just 5 bolts... so price does seem fair.

Thanks for all the info gang.

JPI, is there anything else that is getting removed that I should consider getting replaced with the timing belt... any pulley, parts, ETC????

I would have them check the timing belt tensioner. Replace the crank seal while you are at it. Now the came seals are a little tricky. Also it won't hurt to put on a new drivebelt. The water pump job does get involve. We run the special on t-belt, waterpump and coolant flush for $610 at our shop. Clients love the $200-250 saving that they get .
