They are held in by adhesive and a couple of pins (which your chrome ones should have too). All you have to do is soften the adhesive by heating it up with a hairdryer or a variable heat gun on a low setting. Once the glue is all gooey, you can start prying them off. If you want to keep the gold ones, be extra cautious, if you pry too much you'll crack them, they are very brittle.

so if I want to take off the "lexus" and "sc300" emblems on the rear nothing needs to be filled right... ??or do the pins that help hold them on need to be filled a little?
thanks
Well if you remove them, there will be a few little pin holes showing on the surface where the emblems once lined up. You can have them filled and detailed over though. With some cars, if you remove the emblems after the car has aged, there will be a noticeable fade mark against lighter colors. I've seen it mostly on American cars, but the Lexus factory paint is considerably higher quality. I've removed the front emblem off a dark green '94 Lexus with no such problem.
I just ordered a set of chrome emblems, so I'll have some extra golds, too, if anyone is interested. What adhesive should I use to attach the new ones?
