De-Golding Badges?
Has anyone managed to use rubbing compound or something similar to get the gold off the emblems and expose the chrome? My car originally had chrome emblems which were taken and gold plated/dipped or whatever. So I'd like to know if I can remove them....get the gold off and put them back on. I really hate gold and would like to be cheap and save a few bucks aside from spending for new emblems. Thanks
I've noticed that using come car waxes will fade your emblems. I think Zymol was the one that really faded them the most. Just get a little on a cotton cloth and rub it on and see if that works for you. It might take a good amount of rubbing but it slowly fades them. I think it really depends on the age of the emblems and if they're already been fading then the gold should come off faster at least it did for me.
When I bought my car the emblems were gold plated.
I took them off and used some paint remover to get the gold off...
After that, I used some polish to get the luster back to the emblems...
It won't look as shiny and nice as a brand spankin' new emblem, but it ain't gold anymore!
Hope this gives you some ideas...

Hi guys,
My Soarer badge was painted by the original owner (who knows why though). Is it possible to strip the paint off the badge to reveal the chrome underneath? Just wondering if it's the same process as removing the gold plating (i.e. using some paint stripper or whatever)?
Jose
