Default 98 SC4 Diff = what LSD? 2jz-gte/th400 swap

hey guys, was going to plan on doing a 2jz-gte (th400) swap into a 98 SC400...

i know the diff gear on the 98 sc4 is 3.27 right? now which LSD will fit in this?

are the pumpkins the same between the 3.27 and the 4.27 (N/A sc3?)?

thanks
jason

If the auto supra TT diff will fit the SC, then yes a TRD lsd for the auto supra TT will fit.

yes it does. But there are two different TRD lsd's.. one for the 6speed, and one for auto.

i believe the 98 sc4 auto gearing is 3.27 correct? the supra 6spd gearing is 3.13 or 3.27 (jdm) so i just wanted to confirm which TRD LSD would FIT in this current sc400 pumpkin..

i'm thinking the one for the automatic supra TT since the driver side axles are different between autos and 6spd. i think it would hold true for the 98+ sc400's too.

but i think i read somewhere that the sc300 and sc400 have different gear ratios through different years..

The SUPRA TT diff will not fit into the cradle of the soarer its too big, unless you swap the diff cradle out of a supra tt.

The SUPRA NA LSD will fit into the diff cradle, because its the same size and has the same mounts to bolt straight in

soarer v8 3.916:1
soarer TT and SUPRA NA 4.083:1

and remember you need a digital converter for the speedo so that the Auto box will shift correctly.
if you put in the 4.083:1 diff without changing the speedo it will make the box shift up earlier (lower revs)

3 gear with TH400? Go with 3.2 TRD LSD rear end.

the 98+ sc400's i read somewhere IS a 3.27 gear... ???

does anyone have the link to all the different years sc300/400 and the gearing for them??? i thought it was on lextreme somewhere but i can't find it anymore...

so you're saying the TRD LSD for the supra Auto TT won't fit my 98 sc400 pumpkin??

No, it's 3.8 or 3.9 I think. A '98 GS400 came with 3.2 gear but then they switched to 3.8 for the rest of the years. Supra TT auto LSD will fit in your diff. Supra TT manual LSD won't fit and that's the one that has the 3.2 gear. So in other words, get the Suppra TT manual diff. It's bigger and better and has the right gear for TH400.

So how about the 95 SC4 gearing? Will it fit the Supra TT 6 speed LSD?

gearing has nothing to do with whether one diff will fit or not. gearing is a ratio of the pinion gear and the ring gear. so for every 4.08 rotations of the pinion gear you get one rotation of the ring gear in the case of the sc300 5 speed differential.

here are the ratio for the SC's

sc300 A/T: 4.28
sc300 5spd: 4.08
sc400: 3.78

the supra tt auto diff will fit into any stock SC or GS housing. if you want a supra tt 6spd diff you need the whole pumpkin along with the axles to makes it work. the supra tt 6spd diff is much larger and stronger and the pumpkin of the diff is different too.

the 6spd diff will bolt up to the SC subframe. you dont need to swap to a TT subframe.

any lsd made for the sc or the supra tt auto will drop into the stock housing. i have installed a few tomei lsd's in the SC and it workes great. its an easy job too. the only thing extra you have to buy with the tomei are the diff bearings. they are about 60 each from the dealer. the sc tomei diff doesnt come with them but the tomei diff for the 240sx has them. go figure. maybe they know the nissan drifters are poor and cant spend more money then the diff anyways lol JK.

5sp_jzz30,
Do you know the actual gear ratio of the Supra TT 6 speed? If I buy the Supra TT pumpkin for it, do you think it'll work with my 95 SC4? Is there advantage or disadvantage? Thanks.

I think the 6 speed Ratio is 3.13 or 3.10.... I know the JDM is 3.26... Hope that helps..
