Default Lets talk "rears"

Im getting tired of looking for a solid tt rear, and before i buy a brand new one, im wondering a few things. Mind you, i have searched, but just havent found any concise information. Hopefully this will be common knowledge for some:

1. Will the NA 5spd pumpkin accept the TT auto ring and pinion(3.76) and the Trd Auto LSD?

2. Will the tt 6spd ring bolt to the auto lsd, and the pinion fit into the pumpkin?

The lsd and the ring&pinion is signifigantly cheaper than a new rear, and will be fresher than a used one. This is holding up my six speed swap, and the weather is too nice around here to not have the car out. HELP!

Josh

1. Yes.
2. No. 6spd is larger than NA-auto/NA-5spd/TT-auto.

Just so I understand this correctly,
will the 6sp ring and pinion fit onto the supra TT auto torsen LSD unit? I was hoping I could install the supra auto TT LSD into my sc300 differential casing, but use the 6 speed's Ring gear and pinion shaft to make my getrag swap easier .

the ring and pinion from the 6 speed wont fit the auto lsd. again the 6speed diff is larger and wont match up.

Question

How about using a different Ratio Ring gear or pinion shaft and ring gear combo to attain the same or similar rear-end ratio as the 6 speed differentials?

... just as I suspected, kind of makes sense. I am more than likely going to just cop a new auto ring and pinion as well as trd lsd. To me, this is more sensible than buying a used tt rear which is a risk in the first place.

thanks errbody.

you can use your stock ring gear or the tt auto ring gears to elongate the gears. search for the lowest ratio which i think may be 3.10 but cant remember off the top of my head. The lower the gear ratio the longer the gears will be aka 1st gear with a 3.10 rear end will be longer than 1st gear with a 4.0 rear. hope this helps

Well, im leaning towards buying a TRD auto lsd, auto TT ring and pinion, and putting them into my pumpkin. If there is another ring and pinion that would help the gear, id be interested, but for now, the 3.76 will be ideal for me with a 26-28in tall tire. Anyone done this ^^^^ for a NA 5spd pumpkin?

Thumbs up

What about using the supra auto tt LSD unit with it's own ring gear to lower the NA rear-end's gear ratio?

dejacky: you can defn use the lsd's ring gear and the car will have some more pep but will have to sacrafice top gear cruising. i would transfer over the 5speed ring gear personally.
