Mine was a 97 auto converted to w58, the tunnel had to be cut like most do im assuming. One thing I never understood though was because some say the Auto hole for the tunnel is different from the manual does this mean we can just do the R154 mk3 or soarer trans. and it will fit? or do we still have to do the mod? Again I've heard some guys say it dropped right in, some say you can use the w58 swan neck, some say you have to extend. Also for the extend part from what i've been seeing usually the stock manual guys who go from w58 to R154 they extend about 2 3/4 while the auto guys do more than that? or does that depend on the trans itself and not the car?

to make it simple look at it this way. Apples to apples the 1JZ bell housing is shorter then the 2JZ bell housing and the R154 is also shorter then the W58 so it must be extended or else when you bolt it all up the shifter would come up under your radio in your dash....

take a look at the V160 trans, they even use a tripod like design to get the shifter back in the correct location.

Yeah i understand what your saying. I'm just trying to figure out what was the simplest way to extend it and if there was any difference in the tunnels between a automatic and manual SC pre-R154

the tunnels are different between auto and manual. On the Auto you can almost make out where the stamping/cutout would be for the manual once you scrape off the sound deadening material. At least that's how it was on my Supra. I can only assume it would be the same for Lexus.
