Default r154 shifter extention.

I just bought this Mk3 r154. I know that Ill have to get a 1jz bell housing, and Ill have to extend the shift linkage.

Thing is my tail section is different from some others. Theres a writeup on extending the linkage, on clubna-t. He extended his 2.5"-3". Mine looks like it needs more than that. Any idea how much more mine needs? Why is it different?

Here is a member's at clubna-t

Here's mine.

I mis-read. The first tranny is a w58.

Still, does anyine here have a MK3 r154 trans in their SC?

The MKIII R154 can definitely work if the shifter location is modified and a JZ bellhousing is sourced.

I know that Tech2 Motorsports makes a kit for this specific purpose. The intended application for the Tech2 kit is within the Nissan community, but the goal is the same: to mimic the Soarer shifter location.

I believe Boost Logic also makes a kit.

I also own an R154 that will be going into my SC. Under the direction of Neil Griffiths (the Soarer guru in Australia), I have been guided toward a couple JDM Genuine Toyota Parts that will allow for the conversion of the Supra R154 into the 91-94 Soarer R154. However, this has never been done on Club Lexus. I am the guinnea pig. Here is my post on this topic: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...0&postcount=59

Cool. I didnt know about the kits. The modification looks simple enough. I know a couple people that weld.

Id like to know the measurements first, though. It would be a pain to have to drop the motor and tranny in, just to measure.

Can someone confirm that I have a r154 Mk3 supra tranny.

your going to need to extend at lease 4 max 5 , and it's a lot of work, esp aluminum welding i recently helped a buddy of mine do it, got a shop to fab up the 4" extension on a mk4 supra, from where the shifter is, i think its a bit short, but we did convert auto- 5 speed, also putting a mount on the tranny it's a bit of work, if you ask me

But look at the difference in length, of the tail section of each transmission.

My tranny's tail is about the same length as the center section. The W58's tail section is WAY longer than mine to start with, ....and he only needed 3.5"

Mine only needs 4.5"-5"?

From doing more research, Ill have to extend anywhere fom 3.5"-7".

Ill probably have to wait till I find a 1jz bellhousing, put it on the tranny, and measure my stock w58's location in comparison.

Anyone know where theres a 1jz bellhousing, and flywheel? Driftmotion wants $620 for them before shipping.

That is not a horrible price for both.

Manic Tech Racing sells a Jun Lightweight flywheel for $400 if you are interested in paying a few more bucks to help the 1JZ rev more easily.

Jarco and JHot normally stock JZ manual bellhousings for ~$300.

If you want to find a good deal, scan the Supraforums classifieds. It is not uncommon to see bellhousings on there for $250. But, getting them cheaper than that is not easy since they are in such demand. Flywheels are not easy to find on the classifieds. You may have to sack up and get one new.

the reason for the large difference between extension lengths needed is what shifter you are using. The shifter that I used on the first r154 i did was bent and not straight like most which would make me need less length to make it fit correctly. You do have an r154 just to confirm what you have for you. The w58 that was extended was to be put into a volvo project and has been done by many people over the years as they work great for the volvo community but doesnt quite meet the needs of the average boosted supra/sc driver.

Just a helpful note: Jeff Watson at Champian Toyota has the 1jz/r154 bellhousing for $300 brand new, and has the stock Soarer flywheel for $222.

Can anyone recommend a good MK3 Supra clutch kit, that will hold at least 500 hp?

+1. I am very curious for this as well. Personally, I am looking for the most traffic friendly 500tq clutch kit that will still grip when someone wants to tango.
